Thanks to King's Church for allowing CICS to use their Youth Room at the beginning of January for a Vision Day. The whole team of Workers and Trustees gathered to seek God’s will for the year and be inspired by the plans and vision God has given us! We are excited at the opportunities that have opened up in both Primary and Secondary Schools and with wider youth and children's work across the Borough.
Much of the work of CICS is carried out by an amazing team of volunteers. From Open The Book to Question Point (the new name for Info Point!) to the Trustees we are grateful that people invest time to serve schools across Calderdale. CICS recently welcomed three new volunteers - Jenny Fowler, Kikelomo Erinle and Neal Deakin. More details on volunteering within CICS is here.
Some dates for your calendar:
Saturday 25th March - Prayer Breakfast for all the Youth work in Calderdale. Highgate Methodist Church, Stretchgate Lane, Halifax. Join us to pray at 8.30am with breakfast served at 9.30am and a chance to network and to hear more about some of the exciting new things CICS are involved in! We will be around until 11am (if you want a Saturday lie-in!)
CICS is always seeking new opportunities to partner with the local church in order to support and resource local schools. Some of the latest initiatives include:
Journey Makers - after school clubs which provide children with a fun and safe space to explore ideas of purpose, citizenship, morals and their role within the community. We are looking at running this in 3 schools in the new school year and will be talking to churches local to these schools in the next few weeks.
Life Path Cragg Vale – a half day’s activity reenacting the work of Rev Thomas Crowther in his fight to help the children working in the mills. This is endorsed by Scripture Union as one of their 150 events for their 150th year.
Holiday Kitchen - working in partnership with the local council to offer meals for children on free school dinners during the summer holiday. If you would like to be involved as a volunteer for this please contact us.
CICS Primary Workers are also looking at It's Your Move and ways we can increase the offer to schools with lesson / assembly plans around this fantastic resource. We aim to start delivery of the books earlier this year and so if you / your church would like to financially support this project (we distribute over 2200 books at a cost of £1.20 each) then please see here.
