We had a fantastic night at the recent Supporters Evening. Thanks to Cafe 816 for hosting and thank you if you came! We hope you feel you went away with an update of what is happening and felt the warmth of the fellowship. You can read a report on the night here (this can also be used in church magazines). The pictures are from a photo booth Neil Deakin the Youth Pastor at King's Church has created and which is another resource for use in schools (see more pictures here!)

This year CICS is supporting and promoting Operation Christmas Child which sends shoe boxes to children around the world. Thanks to those who brought them to the Supporters' Evening - we collected an amazing 30 shoe boxes that night! Though we don't have a single box for 10-14 year old boys. and some boxes need padding out with hat/scarf/gloves etc, and many lack a WOW gift. Please let us know if you can help (by 31st October as the shoeboxes need to sent to our regional collection point).

The exciting announcement at our Supporters' Evening was that Chris Mason has agreed to come back to work with  Neil in Secondary schools (10 hours a week). He's slipped straight back in where he left off. Welcome back, Chris...

Here is Sharon from Bus Oasis (who are in several North Halifax schools with Open The Book and Prayer Spaces) welcoming Chris!!!

An encouraging anecdote from one of our volunteers:

When I was at Ryburn on Wednesday evening, a voice piped up "I think I know you, did you come to Christ church and say a prayer with me?" He was a young lad that I had met when I was there ( at Christ Church) doing the Prayer Spaces afternoon. The lad was going to try out for York Football Club and I just prayed with him as we chatted. His try out was successful and he has been 'signed on' and he was so excited to be able to tell me We just never know when or how we will be used do we?

CICS would love to welcome more volunteers to work alongside us in schools - see this page on our website for more details. Below is the Open The Book team in Hebden Bridge (and we love the Goliath model!!!)

CICS has a Prayer Diary which can be downloaded from our website along with a list of all the schools in Calderdale.  We praise God for an amazing first half of term with increased opportunities to work in schools, fantastic ideas and work from our Primary School workers, a great supporters evening, for Chris joining us for 10 hours a week and the great work of our volunteer teams. After the holiday we pray for the opportunities around Christmas and our continued work in a growing number of schools. We also pray for increased finance so that we can continue to increase the work we do to match the requests from schools (see here to invest in the work of CICS).
