As the Nystagmus Network stands poised to announce our biggest ever investment in nystagmus research, here's a round up of all our latest research news.

Meanwhile, as a member, you will be the first to hear our exciting research news for 2019.

UK nystagmus research conference 2019

The Nystagmus Network will once again be hosting a UK nystagmus research conference in 2019.

Following the success of last year’s event, attended by research and clinical teams from the Universities of Cardiff, Sheffield, Plymouth and Southampton and from Moorfields Eye Hospital and Fight for Sight, the charity will be funding a further event with a view to bringing about ever closer teamwork between specialists and seeking out new and collaborative ways to make rare resources stretch even further.

Already confirmed to attend are representatives from the Cardiff, Leicester, London, Plymouth and Southampton centres as well as Fight for Sight, the UK's leading eye research charity.

Members hear research news first at Open Day

Delegates at the Nystagmus Network Open Day each September hear first hand from researchers and clinicians about progress updates on their work and opportunities to participate in trials.

In September 2018 people experiencing oscillopsia as a symptom of acquired nystagmus were able to try a prototype pair of virtual reality glasses being developed by Dr Helen Griffiths and her team at the University of Sheffield to enable the subject to see a still image.

This year we look forward to hearing from Dr Helena Lee in particular about her work with L-DOPA.

Our partnership with Fight for Sight

The Nystagmus Network enjoys a longstanding funding partnership with leading UK eye research charity, Fight for Sight.

The Nystagmus Network joined forces with Fight for Sight under a Joint Small Grant Awards Scheme in 2015. The value of the grant is £15,000 per year. Since then the 2 charities have together funded a wide range of nystagmus research projects, working together to identify new work which has maximum impact on our community.

The Nystagmus Network has formed a fundraising partnership with Moorfields Eye Charity to raise funding for nystagmus research at Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College, London through a series of major fundraising events.

As a result of the abseil in 2018 and last month's Eye to Eye walk we now have a sizeable pot of funding available for new nystagmus research projects.

Hear from Joanne Green at Moorfields Eye Charity at Open Day 2019 about how this funding is to be invested.
