Introducing Fiona and Ian

Fiona joins our staff team

Fiona joined the Nystagmus Network staff team in January 2021 as an Uptern. This is an internship for more mature people who are looking to move into a new career. 

Initially, Fiona is gaining knowledge and experience of working with a small charity and exploring new ways to develop our services. On successful completion of her Upternship, she will take on the post of Development Coordinator (Fundraising).

Ian 

Following a career in public service, most recently as an ECLO (Eye Clinic Liaison Officer) and Complaints Officer with the NHS and before that serving as a Police Officer for 30 years, Ian has settled quickly into his new role with the charity as an Information Support Officer.

DCMS Pears Foundation funding 

Fiona’s Upternship and Ian's initial three months are funded by a grant from Pears Foundation which is part of Government’s £750m charities package.

The charity is grateful to Pears Foundation for their philanthropic support.

Would you like a FREE RUN PLACE in the Royal Parks Half Marathon?

On Sunday 11 April 2021 the Royal Parks Half takes place virtually. This will be an unparalleled digital experience which mirrors as much of the in-person race as possible, including a premium race pack, sights and sounds from the beautiful course (from industry-leading augmented reality), leader boards and that much needed support from fellow runners and spectators.

You will be required to track your 13.1 miles in your local area and fundraise a minimum amount of £175 for the Nystagmus Network.

Priority booking for members

We will shortly be announcing the exciting theme for Nystagmus Awareness Day 2021. We are planning lots of activities for you to take part in.

We can exclusively reveal to members that there will be a fabulous story writing competition for children. We will let you know more on launch day which is Thursday 4 March - World Book Day.

Meanwhile, we'd love to know who your favourite children's author is.

The future of nystagmus research in the UK is in safe hands as two young researchers achieve success in their career paths.
Vijay Taylor 
Our thanks go to Vijay Taylor, nystagmus researcher at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London whose PhD research on nystagmus and visual crowding is published.
Nikita Thomas
We send huge congratulations to the newly qualified Dr Nikita Thomas. Dr Thomas, a member of the Cardiff University team, achieved her PhD in January. She has already embarked on her postdoctoral career at Cardiff.
