Culture Reframed: Solving the Public Health Crisis of the Digital Age
Culture Reframed | Spring 2017 Newsletter

If it's spring where you are, we hope you're enjoying it! We've had an exciting and productive year so far and like always, there's a lot to report, but we’ve cherry-picked some news to share with you here. Culture Reframed (CR) has been a prominent voice this year, speaking at the United Nations and the U.S. Capitol about the harms of porn on individuals and society. We've been busy developing our Parents Program to counter and prevent these harms and hired a new Director of Heath Education to see it through. Making our presence known in Las Vegas and Hollywood, we are boldly resisting porn culture, and we couldn't do it without the ongoing and generous contributions of those who support this important work.

In health and happiness,
Your friends & advocates at Culture Reframed

Culture Reframed Receives Two Generous Grants

CR Grants

Culture Reframed is pleased to announce that it has received two very generous grants to support its work. The first is $150,000 over three years from NoVo Foundation and the second is a $25,000 grant, also for general operating, from the William H. Donner Foundation. We are profoundly grateful to both of these foundations for their generous gifts, as well as our other individual and institutional funders. If you are connected to a foundation that might be interested in funding our work, please contact Samantha Wechsler (swechsler@culturereframed.org) or Gail Dines (gdines@culturereframed.org). We would be happy to speak with you or your foundation contact, and/or send a letter describing our work. We are seeking an additional $200,000 in 2017 to fully implement our programs over the next three years. We could not do this important work without such generous support!

CR Went to Las Vegas to Research How the Porn Industry is Gambling Away Our Sexuality

Las Vegas
Culture Reframed, together with Women Moving Millions' Ann Olivarius, hosted a learning journey to the Porn Expo in Las Vegas this past January. The 2-day journey consisted of presentations by Culture Reframed's team on the impact of porn, the business model of porn, racism in porn and how porn shapes masculinity. We spent an afternoon at the Porn Expo where CR participants could experience the way the porn industry uses its well-oiled PR machine to promote its products. We all agreed that it was a very important part of our learning journey, but it left many of us feeling sad and drained to be surrounded by industry players who see women's bodies as just another product to sell.

CR Founder Gives Testimony at U.S. Capitol Briefing About the Harmful Impacts of Pornography

US Capitol Building

Organized by National Center On Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), experts and activists from across the U.S. spoke to a bipartisan group of policy makers on the need to enact policy to stop violence against women and children, and the ways pornography is implicated in all forms of sexual violence.
