Primary

A message from the primary head

Have you seen how tanned some of our teachers are looking lately? It’s because they’ve been to the beach with their students! Last week, 6 primary classes took advantage of the good weather to visit three different beaches and help to clean up the shore.

It was a good opportunity for our students to get closer to nature and study the coastal flora and fauna, while also performing a civic duty - doing something good for the environment and society, and working together to raise awareness that small gestures can make a big difference.

Thanks to Mr Dawson’s coordination of the eco-school project over the past 2 years, TES has now reached the final step in its mission to become a green flag school. On Friday, an Eco-School assessor, Mr Koh is coming to visit the primary campus. He will meet the student eco-committees, visit some classes and hopefully, once his visit is done, validate our request to become a green flag school.

Ms. Carine Capel

Recruitment 2019-2020

During the last few weeks of school, the French Section will be inviting candidates for supply teaching and learning assistant positions into our classrooms to do trial lessons and see how our full-time assistants and teachers work. Do not be surprised if your child comes home from school saying they have a new teacher or assistant - it will probably one of the applicants!

Focus on French (for children who do not speak French at home)

The FAL (French as Additional Language) infant pathway is an opportunity that our school proposes to parents in order to help infant students increase their range of vocabulary and improve the fluency and accuracy of their spoken language.

Practising French in small groups enables children to become more confident speakers of the language and lays the groundwork for reading and writing in French from CP onwards. Junior FAL continues to work on children's oral language, providing them with the attention and tools they need to become fluent readers and accurate writers in French. Junior FLC enables students who have little contact with French outside of the classroom to deepen their French linguistic and cultural knowledge.

The FAL pathway is obligatory for newly enrolled non-French-speaking students (excluding PS) for at least their first two years in the French Section, but we do encourage non-French speaking families to take advantage of the opportunity of FAL for as long as they wish!

Interested parents are invited to a short presentation and question and answer session about FAL in infants on Thursday 23rd May at 3 :15 pm (see below).
