BULL SALES SET THE BAR HIGH IN FIRST QUARTER

 
February and March saw some hard earned top prices with Wormbete taking top honours for $37,000 in March in their 3rd annual on property sale with invited guests Valley Creek.
Simmentals at Rockhampton All Breeds, Bandeeka, Woonallee and Lancaster all achieved 100% clearance.
To date, bull sales have grossed just over $2.5million and females just over $200,000.

Simmentals in the top three at Sydney Royal Purebred Steer and Carcase Competition

The Stan Hill competition involves the selection by a breed representative of the best 3 steers in each breed within the Purebred Steer Competition whose points on the hook are then combined for the final result. In the prestigious Stan Hill Trophy, Simmentals finished equal third, not far behind the second place Limousin group on 255.00 points and well ahead of the Red Angus and Red Poll breeds. Congratulations to all whom entered in the steer classes and the Simmentals being in the top three places.

SPECIAL MENTION

Murrumburrah High School student, Jonathan Nicholls, had the privilege to lead a steer from Wormbete Simmentals which was then auctioned for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, raising $22,000. Jonathan (below) had undergone open heart surgery just five months earlier.

FEDERAL COUNCIL

THE ASBA directors met by phone at the end of March tweaking a few by-laws after feedback from the December updates. Most significantly an inventory fee on SPR females will not be charged but a registration on SPR calves will now be charged. More to be discussed at the Board meeting in May.

AROUND THE ASBA OFFICE

Felicity Reeves has settled into the position of Executive Officer and has met with members at Sydney Show and is looking forward to working with all members to promote the breed and to make the recording side of your business easier.

Claudia and Felicity are working on implementing S1 calf recording forms, Dam Disposal and Sale Catalogue forms available to you as an Excel Spreadsheet to be downloaded from the website. This format should make things easier for those who would like to do online registrations etc but their internet doesn't allow the time to be online do it. Watch this space....

Baby news
for those of you who know former EO, Damian Coffey:
Damian and Yumiko Coffey had another beautiful baby boy named Thomas Yuji born on 3rd of April at 8.10. 3.1kgs and 51cm's. Yumiko and Thomas are doing extremely well and are home already, Conor is loving being a big brother.

Spring disposal forms have been sent out and are due back by June 30.

46th AGM of the ASSOCIATION

The 46th AGM of the Association to be held in Launceston, Tasmania is fast approaching. Those who have booked are looking forward to partaking in farm tours and places of interest around Launceston. The dates for the meeting/tour will be Thursday 19th, Friday 20th May for the AGM with day tour earlier, Saturday 21st May – full board meeting and day tours for guests, with free time on Sunday morning.

“The Pines”, Warragul, sold 15 Charolais & Simmental cross steers for $890 at Pakehnam Store Sale, Victoria.
Simmental x yearling bulls from the Hayden family sold at Tamworth, NSW,  to 264c/kg ave 345kg for $913.

Simbrah steers by J Cormack Family Trust to 288c; Simmental X heifers by Iwona Partnership to 291c and Simmental X Cow & Calf units from B & D Saul to $1340 at Roma.

Bradshaws of Wandoan sold Simmental x steers at Roma this week to $1359 and Allen and Sons sold Simbrah heifers to $1700.

The cow and calf unit from the Bridgetown-based stud was purchased in a pick of the herd deal by first-time buyers to the stud, Stuart and Sam Moeck, Valley Creek Simmentals, Bowral, New South Wales. More
