Tacoma Community Boat Builders

Year End Greetings - December, 2016

Creating transformational opportunities for at-risk youth through boat building and positive mentorship.

Tacoma Community Boat Builders on Video! A new video by Emily Mkrtichian.

As 2016 comes to a close and we look around us, what we see at the boat shop is hopeful. Tacoma Community Boat Builders is growing! There’s a joyful moreness about the place. People are coming together, each in their own way, to take part in the joyful, challenging work of restoring young lives one by one.

The opportunities to support our youth as they develop new skills are increasing. That’s hopeful news!

What we are looking forward to: More opportunities to serve our youth in meaningful ways and YOU can be a part of that.

We are planning for: More kids, more services, more opportunities to connect them to you!

More youth placed in our paid internship program. And then out into the workforce! Are you hiring?

Opening new pathways to our programs for youth in need. Have you thought about being a mentor?

Starting up a homework help session for our kids! How do you feel about tutoring?

Growing our offerings means growing our budget. Can you help with a year end contribution? If you have room on your list for one last gift before the end of the year, please consider a donation to TCBB. Remember! It’s tax deductible AND makes a real difference in the lives of real kids right here in your community.

The results of this work are inspiring. It’s not just more boats, toolboxes, and musical instruments; it’s relationships that are being built. Today I saw a youth gently smiling at his mentor patting him on the shoulder, and another helping when an extra lift was needed. I saw a brother build a box for his sister, and heads huddled together over plans to build a shed. There was the quiet hum of a shop in swing. Swing is where the magic happens. For us the magic takes form as a sense of kinship and belonging.

Thank you for being a part of that! It takes a whole community pulling together to reach our youth. We are grateful to and for you and wish you joy as we move towards the new year.

All the contributions from our community have made this work possible. We want to thank you for that!

May your lives be touched by joy and plenitude each and every day! Best wishes from the Boat Shop crew!
