GCAA Hosts a Conference Call with 
State Senator Brandon Beach
On April 30, the GCAA Board and the GCAA Government & Community Affairs Committee hosted a conference call with Georgia State Senator Brandon Beach. Senator Beach is Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. Beach gave an update on the possible scenarios for the remaining days of the Georgia legislative session and when they might reconvene. The Senator spoke to the group about budget issues in Georgia and the impact that the COVID-19 crisis will have on the state budget moving forward. He also gave an update regarding his own coronavirus experience and recovery as well as his work with Georgia Representative Matt Dollar and their efforts to gain some needed medical supplies for Georgia from Taiwan.
 
Jeff Wansley, GCAA and Scott Dickson, Hanson Aggregates and GCAA Board President; kicked off the 30-minute call with Senator Beach. Hanson Aggregates; Vulcan Materials; Columbus Quarry; CRH/Midsouth Aggregates; Luck Stone; Marin Marietta; Junction City Mining; NorX, Inc.; Tractor & Equipment; Yancey Bros. Co. and Mathews/Maxwell all participated in this discussion.

On April 22, the GCAA Scholarship Foundation met via conference call to discuss the outstanding scholarship applicants for 2020 awards. Jimmy Fleming, Vulcan Materials, serves as chair for the Foundation.
Those board members participating in the call included, Scott Dickson, Hanson Aggregates; Pete Frey, A4Inc.; Margaret Mathews; Charles Machemehl, GCAA Life Member; Mike Winterhalter, Lanier Technical College and Jeff Wansley, GCAA Executive Director.
 
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Annual Midyear meeting has been canceled and these students were to have been recognized at this event. We regret that we cannot publically recognize them this year, but we all wish them success in their college education and future careers! All the best to the outstanding class of 2020.
