GCAA participated in the annual Georgia Career Expo and SkillsUSA event in March. It was an outstanding success. This is a great opportunity for high school students to learn about careers in the aggregate industry. Many thanks to our member company volunteers who participated in this event.
According to CEFGA, 2018 was the biggest and best in its 14-year history. They had a massive crowd of 8,246 total attendees. That represents the largest total attendance to date, with an 8.5-percent increase over last year. These numbers include: -5,534 students - 1,158 influencers (parents, teachers, counselors, etc.) -1,554 industry volunteers and guests.

Carl Knootz Associates (Smoke School Trainers) demonstrated opacity readings related to the permitted fugitive emissions associated with conveyors, screens and crushers.
The objective was to expose plant operators and frontline supervisors to the mandated limits for fugitive emissions to assist facilities to operate in compliance with permits. This training session was sponsored by Hanson Aggregate and Vulcan Materials. Attendees from producer members companies included Hanson Aggregates, Martin Marietta and Vulcan Materials.
