GCAA participated in the monthly GMA/GCAA Safety Committee meeting. In November, MSHA - Supervisory Mine Safety and Health Inspector Walter DeLoach addressed the group.
Derrick Dickey Luncheon October 27, 2016

On Oct 27th, GCAA hosted a roundtable luncheon with Mr. Derrick Dickey, Chief of Staff to Senator David Perdue. Mr. Dickey gave an overview of Senators Perdue’s positions on various issues facing our state and our country as well as the senators commitment to look at long term solutions to funding highways and infrastructure in the USA. Senator Perdue served as a surrogate for President-elect Trump during the 2016 election cycle. His relationship with Mr. Trump will be an asset to Georgia.
GCAA member companies attending the luncheon include: Oldcastle, Vulcan, Martin Marietta, Bluegrass and Georgia Power. Josh Waller from GDOT and members of the Ga Ready Mix Concrete Association also attended.
11th Annual Southeast Mine Safety and Health Conference November 2 - 4, 2016

GCAA and many of our member companies participated in the 11th Annual SE U.S. Mining Safety and Health Conference in Birmingham, AL. This conference draws hundreds of mine safety workers from the southeast to learn more about better ways to better protect miners. Speakers included Sam Pierce, District Manager, MSHA Metal & Non Metal, SE District and Patricia Silvey, Department Assistant Secretary for Operations.

Bluegrass Materials held its 4th annual customer appreciation lunch at the Cumming quarry in November. This is a great way to get customers together once a year and thank them for their business!
GTA Transportation Forums with Congressman Rob Woodall
Columbus Meeting - Ralph King, Columbus Quarry Augusta Meeting at Martin Marietta Materials
The GA Transportation Alliance hosted several meetings around the State recently. Congressman Rob Woodall, Georgia’s member of the United States House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, shared his experience during the first year of membership on the committee. Congressman Woodall highlighted the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act, and several other federal issues and the difference they are making in your community. He conclude with a Q&A session along with a representative from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
GCAA (Jeff Wansley and Terry Mathews) participated in the Georgia Chamber Government Affairs Council meeting this week. The two day conference was held to confirm the business communities 2017 legislative agenda. We heard from leaders from the Georgia legislature including: Senate Majority Leader Bill Cowsart and Senator Brandon Beach as well as House Majority Leader, Representative Jon Burns. Several new elected representatives and senators attended the Tuesday evening dinner.
