This week's Covid-19 Case Count Summary
New positive cases this week: 0

New positive cases this week: 0

Cases traced to contact at school: 0
Students who missed school due to close contact at home:

How much longer for masks?
Face coverings have been required for all individuals in the school building at Messiah who are unable to maintain sufficient physical distance from one another.
Messiah's classroom teachers have been very good about balancing the health guidance related to Covid-19 and also providing opportunities to remove face coverings when able to avoid close contact.
If the downward trend in Covid-19 cases we are seeing in our school continues, with no Covid spread and little to no close contact outside of school, we anticipate moving to optional masking after next week.
Current protocols (see below) for isolation and quarantine for close contacts have been working well and will still apply even after masks become optional. Thank you for continuing to make great choices when you our your child is not feeling well.

Isolation and close contact protocols in school settings

For Individuals That Test Positive for COVID-19 - ISOLATION
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, they need to stay home for 5 days. The start of the days differs depending on if the person was symptomatic or asymptomatic. For a person who is asymptomatic, but tests positive, Day 0 is the date the sample was collected. For a person with COVID symptoms, Day 0 is the day the first obvious symptom occurred.
  • If they do not have symptoms or if symptoms are resolving (meeting the school’s regular illness criteria for returning to school), they can return to school on day 6. However, they must wear a well fitting mask through day 10 starting on the day the test sample was collected.
  • If a student or staff cannot wear a well fitting mask, they must be excluded and must isolate for 10 days.
Managing Close Contact Exposures – QUARANTINE
Students and staff do not have to be excluded if they have had a close contact exposure but must wear a mask for 10 days while at school or participating in school activities and should, if possible, be tested (PCR test) on day 5 after the exposure.
  • Students and staff who have on-going high-risk exposure to a positive individual who is unable to isolate (example: household) should remain at home until the positive individual completes 5 days of isolation. Extra vigilance on screening for symptoms when they return is advisable.
  • If symptoms develop, they must be excluded and be tested using a PCR test.
  • If a student or staff cannot wear a well fitting mask, they must be excluded for 10 days.
