Newsletter Term 4 2019

Class of 2019 - Presentation Evening

On Friday 22 November Year 12 students, their families and the staff of JFSC came together at the Octagon Theatre at UWA for the 2019 Presentation Evening. Here we celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2019.

Thank you to Mr Phoenix, Ms Trees, Mrs Watson, Ms Silva and all the staff involved in ensuring the evening was successful and enjoyed by all. Thanks also to the newly elected 2020 Prefects for generously giving their time to assist on the night.

We wish the JFSC Class of 2019 all the best in their future endeavours.  A list of award winners is available here.

Class of 2019 Farwell Assembly

On Tuesday 22 October the College came together to farewell the Class of 2019.  This was also a day of celebration as the Year 12s reflected on the last five years at JFSC and 12 years of schooling to date.  The College wishes all Year 12 students the very best in their future endeavours.  Photo Gallery available here.

Remembrance Day 2019

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month Australia comes together as a community to pay their respects to the service men and women who served in Australian armed forces from World War One to the present day.  Read more...

College tackles hunger in Australia

This Winter the College community banded together and collected over 950 items for the 2019 Foodbank Schools Winter Appeal. These items combined equalled over 500kgs or over 900 meals!  Read more...

College Community Share's the Dignity

From September to November this year the College has been collecting items for Share the Dignity. Share The Dignity collects thousands of personal hygiene products every year for women experiencing homelessness and poverty. Read more...

Year 6 Orientation Day 2019

On Monday 2 December the College hosted approximately 200 Year 6 students for Orientation Day. The day allowed students to have a taste of what the next six years of schooling have in store for them.  Read more...


Music Students Excel at Festivals

Over the months of August and September, five different musical groups from the College performed in four different festivals. These groups practiced hard in the lead up to the festivals, rehearsing before and after school.  The students all performed beautifully and represented our College in such a positive manner. CJ Musicians entertain at JFSC

During September Music students from Years 9 and 11 were treated to a performance by Cyril Jackson Senior Campus’s (CJSC) Certificate III and IV Music students. Read more...

Senior Music Concert

On Thursday 19 September the College held its annual Senior Music Concert.   The Senior Band, Senior Classical Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble (Table Tappers), Year 10 Choir, Jazz Combo, Chamber Choir, Senior Electric Guitar Ensemble and Swing Band entertained the audience with pieces from a wide variety of musical genres.  Read more...

Senior Drama Night showcase Antigone

On Tuesday 17 September the Year 11 and 12 Drama students performed an ensemble based showcase of excerpts from Antigone.  This was a culmination of the years studies as revealed by Year 11 student Ronan Kavanagh.  Read more...

Primary School Music Tour

On Wednesday 16 October, the first Wednesday of Term 4, we went off on the Primary School Tour. This is where some of our music ensembles travel to four local primary schools and perform some pieces to showcase both our music program, talent and let them enjoy some music. Read more...

Junior Music Concert 2019

On Friday 15 November the College held its annual Junior Music Concert.

Students get a taste for Languages

During Week 8 Year 9 and 10 Italian and Japanese Language students immersed themselves in a selection of the fantastic multicultural aspects Perth has to offer.  Read more...


Students put Theory into Practice

During Week 3 of Term 4, Year 11 Certificate II in Retail Services students undertook work experience in retail industry placements. The students enjoyed a variety of retail environments, predominately with a food focus. Read more...

Try-A-Trade in 2019

Throughout 2019, a number of Year 9 and 10 students participated in Construction Training Fund (CTF) funded Try-A-Trade Programs with a variety of construction Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). All of the programs made use of the facilities in the John Forrest Trade Training Centre. Read more...

School Based Traineeship pays off

During 2018 and 2019, Isabella Huynh (Class of 2019 graduate) participated in School Based Traineeship with the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Here she gained a Certificate II in Government which she completed 2-days a week over the two years. Read more...

Student excels with School Based Traineeship

For the first time this year the City of Bayswater have run a School based Traineeship Program. Following a successful application process and work trial, Year 11 student Elouise Isaacs commenced a School Based Traineeship with the City of Bayswater at Bayswater Waves.   Read more...


Students get UniReady at Curtin

On the 24 September 2019 the two JFSC Year 11 UniReady classes travelled to Curtin University (Bentley) to participate in an orientation day.  This excursion helped to motivate and focus the students to continue being diligent with their studies.  Read more...


Netball Specialist Day

In Term 3 the Netball Academy had their Specialist Day.  This day was a chance for all girls from Year 7 to 10 to form bonds between others that they wouldn’t have at school.  Read more...

Interschool Athletics Carnival 2019

On 21 October students travelled to the WA Athletics Stadium in Mount Claremont to compete in the Interschool Athletics Carnival (C Division). Competition was fierce with students giving it their all. JFSC came a very close fourth overall.  Read more...

Year 7 Lightning Carnival

Year 7 students experienced four seasons in one day as they participated in the final Lightning Carnival for 2019.

Friday 1 November saw approximately 200 Year 7 students demonstrate fantastic sportsmanship while participating in Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Floorball, Cricket and Ultimate Frisbee. View gallery...

Rockingham Cricket Carnival 2019

At the beginning of November, the Year 9 Cricketers made the annual pilgrimage south to take part in the Rockingham Cricket Carnival for 2019. This year nine schools from across the south of WA competed in this mixed format event (50 over and T20 games). It was an enjoyable but tough competition with both wins and losses for the JFSC Team. Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships

After a year of Tennis Match Play days and classes, the annual JFSC Tennis Championships were held during Terms 3 and 4, where competition was fierce.  On 27 September the Doubles Championships where held at JFSC. See results here.

Cricket Results - Term 4 2019

JFSC Cricket students have made a strong start to the 2019-2020 Cricket season with wins in the Kim Hughes Shield and games against Belridge Secondary College, Kent Street Senior High School, Kennedy Baptist College and Christ Church Grammar School for the Year 7 to 10 students. Read more...

Year 9/10 Netball Camp

This year we, Year 9 and 10 Netballers, got to go to Margaret River for Camp. We enjoyed the accommodation at Surfpoint Resort. We did many different activities including surfing, going to Margaret River Chocolate Factory and enjoying a nice cold ice cream at Simmo’s. Read more...

Students Host a High Tea

During this term three Year 10 Social Food classes have been working towards their big assessment for the unit, the High Tea.

Students had to plan, prepare and present a High Tea with both sweet and savoury options. Much effort was placed in planning and producing food, as well as the setting for such a social event and the results were very pleasing in each of the three classes.  Read more...


Engineering Club Bendigo Bank Pitch Success

On Monday 21 October senior members from the JFSC's Engineering Club participated in the Community Pitch Program sponsored by the Bendigo Bank (Bayswater and Noranda Community Branch). Read more...

State Solar Car Challenge 2019

On Tuesday 12 November 2019 seven JFSC Engineering Club teams participated in the Infinite Energy Solar Car Challenge for secondary students. This was an enjoyable day for all involved, with the JFSC teams showing great teamwork and problem solving capability with all the cars performing exceedingly well. Read more...

Australian International Model Solar Car Challenge 2019

On the 30 November to 1 December three teams from John Forrest Secondary College (Fulcrum – Year 12, Helios – Year 9, and Irrational Paper Gazelles- Year 7) competed in the Australian International Model Solar Challenge in Hobart.  The teams arrived at the competition site at the University of Tasmania to a bright sunny Hobart day.  Read more...


$20 Boss enriches students learning

Starting a business from scratch with only $20 is a daunting thought, however our Year 7 enRICHment students have risen to the challenge throughout Term 3 and 4 and this has led to our $20 Boss Market during Week 3 in Room 3. The range of products and services that students made and sold were highly original and showcased the vast abilities of the class.  Read more...

$20 Boss National Winner

This year was the second time that the JFSC Year 7 Enrichment program students participated in $20 Boss. When the projects were underway, Teacher Joh Gatti nominated four of the businesses into the State and Territory Awards for excellence. Two of the nominated projects by students Hazen Toby and Jorjino Di Giulio’s made it into the finals. Read more...


Birds of a Feather

On Monday 11 November the Bush Ranger cadets were treated to a visit from The WA Birds of Prey Centre. It was an exciting and informative way to be up close and personal with some of WA's top predators. Read more...


Salvos Christmas Appeal 2019

For the fifth year running the College community has come together to donate non-perishable items for the annual Salvos Christmas Appeal.

Yesterday these donations were collected by members of the Salvation Army Morley to be made into hampers and distributed to needy families in the local area. Read more...

Volunteer Morning Tea

On Friday 13 December the College hosted a Morning Tea thanking the volunteers who’ve supported to the College throughout 2019. These volunteers have been assisting in a variety of capacities.  Read more...
The College would like to congratulate the following students on their recent achievements.

Kobe Brown - congratulations on winning a Silver Medal in the U16 boys 100m hurdles at the Australian All Schools competition on 8 December 2019.  Kobe is ranked 2nd in Australia.  Fantastic effort Kobe.

Academic Task Force - ATAR Head Start Program

The Head Start Program is specifically designed to pave the way for Year 11 and 12 school success. The courses preview important concepts, provide an overview of the syllabus for the student’s course of study, build confidence and provide an academic boost for the year ahead.  They are also delivering their popular Study Skills programs where students can learn effective study methods, time management, goal setting, reading strategies and stress management techniques.  Further information on the Head Start Program is available here.
