Newsletter Term 3 2021

Principal Message

Kaya – Hello

As term three comes to an end, we are all amazed at how quickly it has gone which may be interpreted of how busy John Forrest is during this critical term. Our Year 12 students will leave the classroom environment as they move toward their future career pathways. We will miss them and we thank them for their contributions to John Forrest.  We wish them all the best over the next few months.

We have been fortunate to see the full return of the Arts program to the stage with audiences there to applaud the work of each and every student, in music, dance, drama and media. If you have had the opportunity to attend, I hope you have enjoyed the performances of our students and appreciate the exceptional work of our teachers.

There has also been excellent representation of our students across the specialist sports programs, in the athletics carnival, multi-cultural netball carnival and the lightning carnivals who all represented the College with distinction.   Again our PE teachers have added much value to student experiences and opportunities in representing John Forrest.

Authentic learning opportunities continue to be a part of our curriculum delivery with students engaged in a range of off-site learning experiences during the term across all learning areas. These excursions add much value and connection to the curriculum delivery in the classroom. The Harry Perkins Institute, UWA Think Tank, Bush Rangers Zoo visit, STEM for Girls project and Write a Book in a Day all created depth to the experiences of the students.

Social occasions such as the Year 9 River Cruise were a wonderful success along with the continued Breakfast Club. We celebrated NAIDOC week, ‘Wear it Purple Day’ in support of LGBTQIA+ and R U Ok Day whilst our Health Studies students presented an amazing Health Expo to all our students in collaboration with Health agencies.

Finally, I would like to mention the work of both the College Board who are working on the new Business Plan and our P&C. Our plan will encompass the next exciting phase for John Forrest as we see the building program come to fruition providing many opportunities for our students. Our P&C continue to provide support to the College. I would encourage anyone who can, to contact the P&C to see how you may be able to contribute. Volunteers are always welcome.  Enjoy the holiday break.
