Newsletter Term 2 2022

Term 2 Assembly

On Tuesday 21 June the College community came together for the first whole college assembly for the year.

It was fantastic to celebrate some of the achievements from the past six months. These included:

  • The recent Waste 2 Art Exhibition that was held at Ellis House Art Centre,
  • 2021 Dux Awards,
  • The announcement of the new House names,
  • A presentation by the Sustainability Club,
  • Presentation of the Inter-House Swimming Carnival Shield for 2022, and
  • A student wrap-up of last week's Year 10 Work Experience.

Year 11 Students Set Sail

On Tuesday 21 June 2022, Year 11 students departed Elizabeth Quay onboard the Crystal Swan for a magnificent 3-hour cruise along the iconic Swan River. 

Beautifully dressed, students enjoyed a fantastic night of dancing, canapes, conversation and fun, as the sun set and lights twinkled over Perth.  Read more...

Morley Salvs Weekly Comps

On Mondays during Term 2 the College has hosted the Morley Salvos who have been running a variety of competitions during Recess. Students who competed were in the running for a variety of prizes supplied by the Morley Salvos, including movie tickets and canteen vouchers.  Read more...

Drama Club have a Monster time

Roars, screams and lots of laughter emanated from the JFSC Exam Centre on Thursday 23 June 2022 as the Junior Drama Club members performed for the first time this year. Read more....

Waste2 Art Exhibition

Music Camp 2022

Once more, members of the John Forrest Secondary College Senior Music ensembles set out to Ern Halliday camping grounds on their annual Music Camp. 

Over the 3 day camp, students learned lots about the art of music, under the guidance of the experienced music education staff. Ensemble rehearsals ran throughout the weekend, during which students learned and perfected various pieces of repertoire in the various ensembles they were a part of.  Read more and view Gallery...

Year 10 Work Experience

In Week 8 Term 2, 144 Year 10 students from John Forrest Secondary College (JFSC) completed a one-week block of Work Experience as part of their Career Development Program.

Students attended an array of workplaces in a variety of industries. As a result of this experience, some students were offered casual employment. This experience helps them decide on their career pathways and provides clarity for Senior School subject selections.  Read more...

Year 8 Storybooks

"Wow! I never thought I'd be able to finish something like that…but I actually wrote a good book!"

In June 2022, Ms Wallenborn's Year 8 English class held a display of their storybooks. One student exclaimed, "Everyone worked really hard on their books to make sure we finished on time for the display, and it was so good". Although some felt nervous, they were proud to display their hard work, delighting in "the cool and creative things others had made." Students also discovered that they could write an effective story when they took the time to apply what they had learnt and drafted their work.  Read more...

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Interschool Cross Country

The Interschool Cross Country was again hosted by John Forrest Secondary College on 5 May at Hillcrest Reserve.

With restrictions in place for many school, Mount Lawley was the only other school to compete.

Eagles Cup Success

On Thursday 16 June, the lower school John Forrest Secondary College (JFSC) AFL team played in the Eagles Cup East Perth division Grand Final. Our team had finished in 2nd place on the ladder by the end of the season. JFSC was playing Chisholm Catholic College in the Grand Final who had finished on top of the ladder.  Read more...

2022 SSWA Champion Schools Netball Tournament

Netball students have been challenged throughout Term 2 competing in the SSWA Champion Schools Netball tournament.

Eleven teams from all year groups competed in the Lower (Yr7/8), Middle (Yr9/10) and Open (Yr11/12) divisions in the first stage of the tournament.  Read more...

Students QuestaGame Success

I was first introduced to QuestaGame  by Mr Cumming and Mrs Bruce when I was a Year 7 student, as part of Bush Rangers. QuestaGame is the world's first mobile citizen science game that takes you outdoors to discover, map and help contribute to real research and conservation. Read more...

Year 10s Get into Resource

On the 23 of June, 17 students from Year 10 attended the “Get into Resources”  expo for the day. This expo focused on job pathways leading into the mining and resource sector. The day was very fascinating and eye-opening, providing plenty of free stuff for us to take home. Read more...

 

Girls in STEM program launch

On Monday 27 June 2022 JFSC students and staff came together to launch the “Girls in STEM” program.

This program is aimed at encouraging and supporting the girls at the college to pursue their passion for STEM and take up STEM related courses, including advanced courses in Maths and Science.  

The program will consist of a weekly form class, which will provide support and mentoring, and additional academic activities including STEM challenges and visits from females working in STEM related industries.   View Gallery...

The College would like to congratulate the following students on their recent achievements.

Ms Berryman - congratulations for being appointed the Girls Coach to the School Sport WA Basketball 12s Team for 2022.  This team will be competing in the School Sport Australia National Championships in Victori in August.

Kray Gregory - has advanced to the United World Wrestling Under 17 World Championships in Rome in July.  Kray is the youngest ever Australian to be selected for this event and only the second female in Australian history.  Congratulations Kray and good luck!
