Newsletter Term 1 2021

College Redevelopment

It has started!! Knowing the College Redevelopment was scheduled to occur was good… but actually seeing it happen is exciting! Our Principal, Melissa Gillett, and Head Prefects Gwyneth Chai and Chase Hoy welcomed the Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Sue Ellery MLC; along with local members Lisa Baker MLA Member for Maylands; Simon Millman MLA, Member for Mount Lawley; and Amber-Jade Sanderson, Member for Morley to the building site to “turn the sod” and officially get construction underway. First Day Back to School 2021

After an unexpected week of lockdown we can finally welcome back all JFSC staff and students! It's great to see everyone's smiling faces behind their masks.  A very warm welcome to our Year 7's! We hope you have a wonderful first week of high school!

Year 7's First Week

Year 7 students participated in Peer Support sessions as part of their first week of high school. These Peer Support sessions were run by select Year 11 students who provided Year 7 students with communication, self-confidence and leadership skills to help bridge the gap between primary and secondary school and allow them to adjust to their new environment. Year 7 Activity Day

On Friday 26 February our Year 7 students enjoyed a fun filled activity day to build confidence, develop team building skills, create new friendships and to get to know their Form teachers. Read more....

Congratulations Tahlia Russo!!

Tahlia's winning design "Union of Differences" features on the front cover of our 2021 Student Planner.
Choosing the winner is never easy for the judging panel, as there were so many amazing entries. Thank you to all students who participated.

College Ball 'Clair de lune'

Our College Ball was held on Friday 12 March at the beautiful Mandoon Estate. Thank you to all students and staff who attended this spectacular event. Term 1 Award Assembly

On Tuesday 23 March, JFSC held the first College Assembly for 2021. Dux, Scholarship and Outstanding Achievement Award recipients for 2020 were announced. Our 2021 Sport and House Captains and 2021 Interhouse Swimming Carnival champions were also announced. Congratulations to all award winners! View Gallery.

Year 12 Sport & Recreation Class Mentor Year 9 Crickers

The Year 12 Sport and Recreation (Cricket/AFL) class have spent the last 4 weeks mentoring students from the Year 9 Cricket class. Students were able to nominate a skill to work on and the Year 12 mentors designed drills to help them improve. During the program, students have worked one on one with senior school cricketers who have been able to pass on their knowledge and feedback. View Gallery.

Cross Country 2021

A glorious day welcomed all our Cross Country competitors on  Friday 26 March. Congratulations to our top three winners and a big thank you to everyone for participating on the day! View winners and gallery.

SCIENCE

Year 12 ATAR Chemistry and Physics Visit to UWA

On Monday 15 February Year 12 ATAR Physics and Chemistry Students visited UWA. The students started in School of Molecular Science where they completed a First Year Chemistry experiment in the synthesis and purification of aspirin.  The final results were a bit variable but many of the student managed to produce nice clean crystals of aspirin as their final product. CHAPLAIN NEWS

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is available for all students from 8am – 8.45am on Wednesday mornings.  Students are able to eat, relax and mix with their friends; creating a positive atmosphere in the College before school. The Breakfast Club is always busy with many students enjoying the pancakes, fruit, toast, scrambled eggs, yoghurts, cereals, tin fruits, milo and orange juice. PREFECT NEWS

Easter Raffle

The Prefects organised an Easter Raffle for staff and students with all proceeds donated to the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund.  Approximately $250 was raised.
The College would like to congratulate the following students on their recent achievements.
Congratulations to Mikayla Hyde (Class of 2019)! Mikayla has been drafted to play for the Fremantle Dockers AFLW. We wish her the very best for the season!
