Welcome to this first newsletter for 2016.  Katey and her office volunteers have been busy. We have 6 new organisations and 25 new volunteers who have come on board this year so far. WELCOME to everyone.
Our new organisations are:  
Masterton RSA; Netball Wairarapa; Hockey Wairarapa; Rotary Club of Masterton; TOI Wairarapa “Heart of Arts” and Community Budgeting Trust (Wairarapa).
Thank you to all our volunteers who helped with the Wairarapa Balloon Festival,
the Men’s Cycle Race, Heart Foundation Annual Street and 
Stoke Awareness Week.
On Tuesday 1st March, we held an information stall at the UCOL Wairarapa "Market Day" with a fun competition for students to guess how many jellybeans were in a jar. A number of students put in their answers but there could only be one winner – Jess Lee.
Do you have a few hours to spare? Do you want to help a “Not for Profit” organisation? Then we would like to speak with you. We have a number of organisations looking for volunteers.

We need:
  • Bakers and Cake makers – role #125. Work from home on a roster.
  • Office Assistant – role #134. Work Mon, Wed or Thur 9-2.30pm (hours can be split).
  • Event Support – role #140. Work for home 1-2 hrs per week plus attending a monthly meeting.
  • Lego Support Assistant – # 144. Mondays from 3.30-5.30pm.
  • Daily Food Packers – role #154. Monday to Friday from 11-12.30pm, pick your day.
  • Leader/Sidewalker – role #163. Thursdays from 9.30-3pm, or morning/afternoon shift.

Student Volunteer Week (11-17 April 2016)
The Wairarapa Volunteer Centre in collaboration with the Wairarapa Youth Council held a competition to celebrate Student Volunteer Week. We invited Wairarapa based students to send us a photo showing themselves volunteering their time for a Wairarapa based organisations.

Nine amazing students were nominated for their voluntary work at St Patrick School, Masterton Foodbank, Age Concern Wairarapa, Netball Wairarapa and Wairarapa College.

Our winners were:
  • 1st prize - Jake McIsaac; who won an Apple iPad mini kindly donated by the Wairarapa Youth Council.
  • 2nd prize - Caitlin Elliott; who won a double pass to the movies kindly donated by the Wairarapa Volunteer Centre and the book “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch kindly donated by Paper Plus Masterton.
  • 3rd equal - Joanna Saba and Ella Major; who each won mini golf double passes kindly donated by Masterton Mini Golf & Cycle Hire.
  • 4th prize - Jonathan Hook; who won a family pass to Pukaha Mount Bruce kindly donated by Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre.

We would like to thank ALL our student volunteer nominees for entering our competition but most of all for volunteering in our community. Thank you also to ALL the businesses that kindly donated prizes.

Did you know that 20-29yr olds make up the largest age group registered with the Wairarapa Volunteer Centre followed by 40-49yr olds?
