PEER LEARNING SUMMIT: HOW GOVERNMENTS AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR CAN PARTNER ON NAP PROCESSES
Over 50 representatives from 12 countries came together in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to discuss how developing country governments can engage businesses and investors in the development and implementation of their NAP processes. Hosted by the NAP Global Network, with support from the Government of the Netherlands, this Peer Learning Summit (PLS) aimed to share country experiences and enabling factors for private sector engagement in the NAP process. LATEST ALIGNMENT BRIEF SHEDS LIGHT ON COUNTRY PERSPECTIVES TO ADVANCE NDC-NAP LINKAGES
This third installment of a series focusing on alignment of country efforts under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction explores country perspectives on alignment of national-level policy processes under the Paris Agreement—specifically, NAPs and NDCs—as a basis for broader alignment toward climate-resilient development. NEW REPORT EXPLORES ENTRY POINTS FOR VERTICAL INTEGRATION OF CLIMATE ACTION IN KAZAKHSTAN
With Kazakhstan currently initiating its NAP development process, and with climate change impacts often felt locally, the most effective approach to the NAP process will involve a mix of top-down and bottom-up approaches, recognizing that much of the implementation of adaptation will occur at subnational levels. This study, which was developed with support from the NAP Global Network’s Country Support Hub, aims to identify and analyze potential ways to use existing institutional mechanisms to strengthen subnational-level adaptation planning capacities to ensure the successful implementation of identified adaptation measures.

In our final two installments of our five-part series on engaging the private sector in NAP processes, part four looks at how institutional arrangements can engage micro, small and medium-sized businesses in climate adaptation, while part five looks at different ways to bolster businesses’ capacity in a changing climate.
NETWORK SECRETARIAT IN ACTION
- The Government of Ghana hosted a series of high-level regional consultations in order to build momentum for medium- and long-term national adaptation planning efforts.
- The Government of Grenada hosted a workshop on monitoring and evaluation of climate change adaptation in order to develop a framework for Grenada’s NAP process.
- The Environmental Protection Agency of Sierra Leone hosted a workshop for key government decision-makers in the country’s NAP process in order to build further political support for strengthening the country’s resilience to climate change.
- Secretariat staff travelled to Cape Town to participate in week-long discussions with researchers, policy-makers and practitioners around gender equality in the context of resilience and climate risks, exploring how these can be an integral part of adaptation planning.
- The Guinean government validated a new study to advance the integration of gender issues related to climate change adaptation into its NAP process.
- Senegal and GIZ co-host the second Francophone Forum on NAP Processes in Dakar this week, with support from partners including the NAP Global Network, and are joined by participants from Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Mali, Madagascar, Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco and Haiti.
- Colombia’s National Planning Department and Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development hosted a high-level breakfast meeting in Bogota with influential environmental journalists.

- Zimbabwe will receive a USD 100 000 grant to mainstream climate change in development planning through the country’s National Climate Change Response Strategy and NAP. The grant is provided by the Swiss Development Cooperation through the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
- The Adaptation Fund approved USD 93 million in funding for 10 new climate adaptation projects.
- Uganda launched their National Adaptation Plan for the Agriculture Sector, developed with the support of the Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans Programme (NAP-Ag).
- The Republic of the Congo hosted a workshop on provincial NAP planning processes.
