Of the 9,718 people who turned out to vote:
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Yesterday we asked voters to affirm Arlington’s longstanding commitment to education. They answered with a resounding Yes, Yes, Yes to support all of our students!
We’re proud to have chaired this campaign and to have had the opportunity to work with so many people who believe in our town. In approximately two years we will reactivate the Build Arlington’s Future campaign to rebuild or renovate Arlington High School. With your help, we know we can be just as successful in phase two of the campaign as we were in phase one.
74% voted Yes to build an addition to the Thompson Elementary School and to renovate the Gibbs School for use as a town-wide sixth grade.
76% voted Yes to fund a feasibility study for the Arlington High School, a critical early step in rebuilding or renovating the school with significant support from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).
64% voted Yes to rebuild the Minuteman Vocational High School with significant support from the MSBA.
We believed our schools would win yesterday, but once again you exceeded our expectations! This incredible victory would not have been possible without the dedication of volunteers and supporters like you. On Monday and Tuesday alone volunteers logged 900 hours working tirelessly to get out the vote.
Next week, Arlington’s students will celebrate the end of a school year filled with learning. We know now that plans and funding are in place to ensure the quality of their schools when they return in the fall. We hope you all enjoy a richly deserved break at some point this summer and are able to take some time to reflect on all we’ve achieved together.
