Help Us Fight Hatred

with a PARTY on

Tuesday, July 9th @ 6pm

(and get a lemon square or two!)
This has been an exciting and emotional week in the yarniverse.  If you are not aware, this past weekend Ravelry made a new policy banning hate speech and white supremacy, tying both directly to the Trump Administration.  Their policy states that "We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy."

This was a strong and bold move by the Ravelry owners and staff, and there has been much response, both positive and negative, much of it is being focused on shops, yarn companies and designers who are choosing to stand with Ravelry against hate. There have been many articles published over the week - including in the NYT, Washington Post and a particularly comprehensive piece on Vox.

Woolyn has already made a statement on Instagram, and I want to thank everyone who took time to like or post messages of support and education.  If you don't follow us there - I am reiterating that Woolyn, as well as me personally, is fully in support of Ravelry and the message they are sending. We also stand firm in doing all we can to make Woolyn a welcoming, inclusive space and will not tolerate hate speech of any kind.

You said something about a party?

Yes!  Because we feel it isn't enough to just #standwithRavelry, we are throwing a party to raise money to fight the good fight.  We are asking for a $5 donation (or more, if you can!) and Woolyn will match any money received.  We will be donating to the Southern Law Poverty Center.  If we raise more than $250 (including the matching) we will split the money between SLPC and RAICES - so help us come up with enough money to donate to both!   For your donation, there will be drinks and snacks (including lemon squares!), and of course a great evening of company and yarn crafting.  Hope to see you there!!!

If you can't make it, but would still like to help us raise money, please call or stop by the shop to donate.  We will match any donations between now and the party!

What's the deal with the Lemon Squares?
Glad you asked!
