South Carolina 4-H Volunteers' Newsletter

October 2020 - Volume 6:1(1)

Dear 4-H and Extension Volunteer

Thank you for your dedicated service and support to Clemson Extension and the state of South Carolina. We understand and appreciate your desire to volunteer and your frustrations with the policies and restrictions related to COVID-19 that have infiltrated nearly every aspect of our lives. Please understand that our mission of delivering “unbiased, research-based information and education” mandates us to follow the evolving evidence surrounding this pandemic and support strategies intended to protect the public health, safety and general welfare of our employees and stakeholders.

Clemson University Cooperative Extension’s COVID-19 volunteer guidance is consistent with the policies and guidelines provided by Clemson University and applies to officially sanctioned Extension programs and projects. They do not prevent volunteers associated with Extension programs (e.g. Master Gardener Associations, Master Naturalist groups, 4-H clubs, etc.) from convening independently or volunteering on their own. However, such activities are discouraged by Clemson Extension and the University based on the best evidence and risk mitigation strategies provided by public health authorities (SC DHEC, CDC, etc.). As a result, no Clemson University (including Cooperative Extension) resources, staff, facilities or insurance may be used in support of such gatherings or activities until Extension’s re-entry plan metrics have been met.

The university urges all colleges, divisions, schools, departments, registered student organizations and other organizational units to continue to limit face-to-face interaction to the extent possible by using virtual alternatives such as email, instant message, telephone, or video conference tools like Zoom or WebEx; and follow protective guidelines where face-to-face interaction is required as outlined in the Meetings section of the Return to Workplace Guidance. For more detailed information concerning virtual meeting options, see Free Virtual Meeting Service Recommended for Clemson Extension Volunteers.

We ask for your patience and understanding and that you please stick with us through this difficult time. We will emerge stronger together as we strive to serve each other and our neighbors.
