 Term 1 2021, Week 9
April 1st,  2021
Kia Ora Koutou,

Maraekakaho School has been a hive of activity over the past two weeks and the short week this week has been one of the busiest! It has been great to be connected to our community through the market day and parent interviews which is continuing the work to achieve our strategic goal 'Our Community: A positive school community where all stakeholders work together to support learners to achieve their goals'.

Market Day
What a fabulous day it was, perfect weather, quality stalls, superb food, amazing entertainment and a great turn out from the wider community. To our organising committee ably led by Dave Duncan, to our sponsors, to our parents and supporters, staff and students.  A MASSIVE thankyou! Many months of planning turned into a uniquely Maraekakaho community day with the benefit of funds raised for the school and Gumboots. Final figures have not been released yet, but we will let you know as soon as we have been advised.

Parent Interviews
We had an excellent turnout to parent interviews on Monday and Tuesday. Many thanks for the positive feedback we have received about these meetings.
This year we took the added step to find out what individual parents wanted to know as part of these meetings, this was in response to previous feedback we had received. We hope that this enabled parents to get the information they were after at these interviews.
Policy Review
Thank you to those who have submitted responses to the home learning policy review as outlined in the previous newsletters. The responses from all 'School Docs' schools will be reviewed by the School Docs team. A draft 'model' policy will be produced by School Docs for the board to consider adopting. Responses from our school will be reviewed by the board and if deemed necessary the board can include school specific content in the new policy to be adopted.

Property Update
The new classroom was delivered and put in position last Friday. The builders are making good progress on the joining of the modules and we hope that this will be completed sometime next term. The building team will leave the site tidy with paths and grass however, the school will still have some landscaping work to do once the builders hand over the site.

All Weather Canopy - Court Cover
The court cover project is still bubbling away in the background. This week have have been given the approval to go ahead with the project by the Ministry Of Education. We hope to have some time lines to report shortly. This project is being funded for by the School Improvement Package announced by the government in 2019. We are also using the proceeds of Market Day along with trust grants to complete this project. We look forward to being able to use this wonderful facility.

Have a wonderful Easter Break with your families. Please remember that Easter Break is from Friday 2nd April to Tuesday 6th April.  We are back to school on Wednesday 7th April.

Great to have you here Kristen.  The coffee is excellent.  Tasty sweet treats by Little Black Bird Cafe. Look out for the roadside flag and call in at the Hall/School carpark.
Students rules for the Coffee Cart.............
  1. Students can only go to and from the coffee cart with an adult. This is a safety issue, Kristen will not serve them without an adult present.
  2. Cut off time for before-school purchases is 8.45am
  3. Sweets are prohibited from school so any chocolate bars bought need to be put in bags taken home for consumption.

Drop your old phone into the box in the office........
It is estimated that each year up to three million phones become obsolete in NZ, of those only 2% are recycled.
Phones collected help our school gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits as well keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances.
