 Term 2 2020, Week 10
June 18, 2020
Kia Ora Koutou,

We are coming to the second week of alert level one. School has pretty much returned to normal. Many thanks to parents and students for their understanding and adhering to the systems we had in place for alert level 2. Restrictions of coming onto the school site are no longer in place, we also only require visitors to sign in at the office now, parents do not need too.

Pick Up Procedures
A further reminder that we are retaining the adopted pick up procedures we used during alert level two on trial for the remainder of term two. It has been observed that they have provided a safer and more efficient management of people and traffic. Details of these are below.
AFTER SCHOOL PICK UP PROCEDURE
At 2.50pm the bell will ring to signal to teachers to release students to the bus lines or pick up zones.

PICK UP ZONES
The pick up zones will continue to be the junior deck and outside room 5.
Students will be able to leave with parents from 2.50pm.

WALKING & BIKING STUDENTS
Students who are walking or biking will be able to leave at 3pm via the Kereru Road exit.

MAIN OFFICE ENTRANCE – AFTER SCHOOL CARE VAN & BUSES ONLY
The main office entrance is to be used for the after school care van and bus students only. These will be boarded from 3pm. We ask that parents wait for students at either of the pick up zones.

STUDENTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO WALK INTO THE CARPARK BY THEMSELVES
Due to the high level of risk, students will need to be accompanied by a parent in the carpark.
Students Illness
We have seen an increase in student illness over the past week. This has raised the question 'when a child can return to school after being sick?' At alert level one our procedures return to normal. We ask that students remain away until symptom free. Running noses and coughs can linger for some time. Once these symptoms settle down (eg. only infrequent cough and/or running nose) and your child can appropriately manage them (eg. coughing into elbow and nose wiping with tissues and then handwashing) then they may return to school. We understand that this may be longer for younger students. If you are unsure, talk to your classroom teacher.

Policies and Procedures
A reminder that at our last board meeting we formally adopted the new Policies and Procedures format which we have been working on for the past 12 months. The new format uses the 'School Docs' platform which is used widely in New Zealand schools. The link can be found on our school website under school information or by clicking here. The username for our community is 'mkk' and password '8749700'. We will update you on key policies over the remainder of the year.

We will be having our first assembly for the term tomorrow in Room 7 starting at 2pm. Feel free to pop along!
Finally, a reminder that the last day of term two is Friday 3rd July. Exellence assembly will be at 1pm. School closes and all buses will run at 2pm (the town bus students will be leaving to go on the Tikokino run first).

Regards,
Phil Jones
Principal

NETSAFE TIP for this week...........................

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD HAS SEEN SOMETHING ONLINE THAT HAS UPSET THEM

If a young person comes to you about something they have seen online, the most important thing you can do is take what they are saying seriously. Try to stay calm and provide them with comfort and reassurance. Make sure you them know that they did the right thing by talking to you about what they have seen. You can view our advice for Helping Young People Exposed to Upsetting Content.

 “CALLING ALL OLD MOBILE PHONES”

Drop your old phone into the box in the office........
It is estimated that each year up to three million phones become obsolete in NZ, of those only 2% are recycled.
Phones collected help our school gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits as well keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances.
