At mid-summer, we still cope with a virus that has disrupted our lives and peace of mind. How did we get to this scenario? I am generally an enthusiastic optimist, but some days, I must work extra hard at believing in the possible.

Humankind has incredible resilience, especially when we work together with respect and kindness. Now is the time to focus on how we can use our inherent capabilities to solve the seemingly impossible problems in the world. You may wonder what you can do. Isn't that the work of leaders, engineers, scientists, doctors, and all those experts out there somewhere?

Yes, and no. Experts can study, guide, and test solutions. But their work can only take us so far. the rest is up to us and our commitment to change, however small.

We have the power to believe in possibilities. If each person took one positive action to protect others from spreading a virus, used one less plastic bag, or drove one less mile, imagine what we could accomplish collectively.

Every one of us can adopt a lifestyle of kindness. It doesn't cost anything, except for our willingness to be kind. As Margaret Mead reminds us, "A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

Inspiration worth sharing . . .

  1. I have a favorite scene from Lewis Carroll with Alice and the White Queen about believing in impossible things. Couple that with Ed Catmull's book, Creativity, Inc., and you may soon realize that Unlimited Possibilities Are All Around You
  2. Every day I try my best to always show kindness, but I slip up now and then, regretting my impatience. I've discovered that kindness isn't just about doing something nice for someoneon occasion. No, kindness is a lifestyle, and I explain why here.
  3. I found the perfect song to reflect on conquering the impossible and spreading kindness. My sister introduced me to an amazing singer, Heather Headley. Her rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is pure and inspiring. Take a few moments to enjoy Heather.

I cannot close this newsletter without including another song with Heather and Andre Bocelli. The Prayer and our belief in possibilities can change the world.

Inspiring words . . .

"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible."
~St. Francis of Assisi
