Welcome to this issue of ‘RURAL POST’

This is an e-mail newsletter extension of the RURAL - Jersey Country Life magazine.
The earlier issues of this newsletter can be viewed at www.ruraljersey.co.uk/rural-post

It is not quite RURAL magazine, but….
… there is always quite a long gap between the quarterly issues of the magazine, so this helps, as best we can, to fill the gap in between.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES

FISHERIES

STORM IN THE CHANNEL

Life in Jersey took a curious turn earlier this month when an armada of French fishing boats appeared one stormy, rainy morning to blockade the Harbour. The fishing dispute between Jersey and France about fishing rights and permits had changed gear and the details became part of the national and international news agenda.

There were also threats made to cut off the Island’s electricity supply, which comes from France via undersea cables. This hasn’t happened, although a reader from the UK was under the impression that Jersey now had no electricity and phoned to commiserate with us accordingly.

The story is on-going and further developments are to be expected.
