Model Farm

building enterprise small farms and small farm enterprises
2017 #2 - from Nicaragua

"Real Numbers, Real Growth, Real People"
You are making it happen!

<<First Name>>, you have been a huge part of growing Pontis  over the last couple of years.  Your support plus the time you take to keep track of the work you are doing in Latin America to help the poor is a BIG DEAL.   Let's look at what has been happening and what is going to happen with your ongoing support:

Well and Water - On the Way

Remember that appeal for the Well, Water, and Irrigation projects?  As usual, you came through.  A combination of individual support plus a very generous congregation in Texas have fully funded the initial Well and Water projects.  The Pontis team is arranging for the well to be drilled on the Veracruz demo farm, and is setting up the well drilling team and business.  This is a big program that will impact many lives.  Thank you!

If you are familiar with the Well, Water, and Irrigation projects, you know there is more to come .  Farms, water, and business.  That is what you, and Pontis, are all about.

A simple score of your IMPACT

You should expect your support money to be spent responsibly and that the people who spend it are totally transparent with that spending.

The Pontis team is using this simple scorecard (above) to see how students, farms, and families are benefitting from Pontis Sustainable Agriculture.   This is the type of thing that makes your support super effective in helping a large number of families with just a little money.  Let's take a look at some of those numbers so far in 2017:
  • 72 participating farms
  • 40 classes conducted in 5 locations
  • 23 micro loans for cash crops
  • 100 students in January classes with 78 progressing successfully after 3 months
(note:  Pontis training is demanding and there are always students who are not willing to put in the time, effort, and commitment that is required to truly transform a subsistence existence to an enterprise farm business.)
Speaking of transparency, Pontis just released our first annual report

Take a look at exactly how your support was used in 2016:
Click to read the Pontis 2016 Annual Report

The Pontis 2016 Annual Report details the work of an organization that is small, about $100k in 2016 but used that to impact over 70 families.  Compare with other organizations and you will see the efficiency and huge impact per dollar your support receives with Pontis.

Now, what if we could double that in 2017?  More training, more families served with that same small, scrappy, start-up style efficiency.

You can see that Pontis is a small organization that gives your support BIG IMPACT.

BTW

The 2016 Pontis report is your report card.
YOU GOT AN A+ in 2016 for MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

Feel free to print out the annual report and hang it on the refrigerator so your mom can see it.

They Need Your Help

The photo below is of the Pontis Sustainable Agriculture Technician Training Class.  The series is going on right now.  Those are two current (Sergio and Victor) plus six new Pontis technicians.  Think of how many farm families will have improved lives with nine people (including Ernesto) teaching classes!

But we need your help to fully equip and support this team.  Won't you sign up to help each of our new technicians, like Renee, reach 30-40 families.  He needs your help!

I would like to help these trainers bring better lives to more poor families

Let's talk right now about how you can do that.  Whether general support for the program, specific support for technicians, or sponsoring a designated project, there is a great place for you to do good in Latin America. Please contact Brad Allen at (425) 985-6203 or bradkentallen@gmail.com

OK, what is the "bottom line"?  We need to increase our annual support to about $250,000 per year for the Pontis model to work.  2017 has started off in the right direction, but we have a long way to go.
SUPER STUDENTS:  eight students learning to be Pontis Sustainable Agriculture Technicians.
What would it be like to have a passion to help the poor, get trained as a Pontis technician, then there is no money to support your work in the field?  Your support will make sure they make a difference in the lives of the poor.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and “you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”                    Jesus Christ, Matt 11:28-29
