SENATOR JIM WELCH’S NOVEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER
Greetings,

Welcome to my newsletter. I hope that this will serve as an effective way to keep the residents and stakeholders of the Hampden District informed of the work being done in the Massachusetts Senate and across the Commonwealth.

If I can ever be of assistance to you or your family, please contact me at my district office.
As you may know, myself and Rep Mike Finn will be hosting "West Side Salutes the T-Birds!" This event will offer a special ticket deal to watch the Springfield Thunderbirds play the Providence Bruins. We sincerely hope you all can join us. There's no better opportunity to show some local pride and connect with fellow hockey fans!

Legislative News

Even though the year is winding down, that does not mean the legislature is standing still.

This month, the Senate passed my bill, Senate Bill 209, An Act relative to the Springfield Technology Park. This bill would affirm the Park as a Corporation governed by a professionalized 12-member board of directors -- helping it better achieve it’s mission and spurring the region’s job growth and economy. After passing through the Senate, it now goes to the House Committee on Ways and Means.

Additionally in November, two important stories made headlines regarding unfair medical charges: balance billing and surprise outpatient hospital fees. Both of these practices are simply unfair and can costs families hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in medical bills. This session we worked to fix both issues under broad health care reform legislation. Unfortunately, that legislation did not pass. However, we will continue to look for legislative solutions to improve healthcare and reduce costs.
