Stellar's Relaxation Day Changes & Thoughts

TL;DR: There were some changes, I thought about it a lot, and think we should still proceed. What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone~ Here's my follow up email as promised. As mentioned I've met with Makestar again and there have been some changes to how the Healing Day Out for Stellar will look, and how our Stellar Support Project will be related to it. I've spent some time to think about what the changes actually mean, and have tried to distil the changes to the essence of what it will mean for the project. I will highlight the changes to you guys below and give you my thoughts on what I think and how I think we should proceed. Please also let me know your thoughts.

Healing Day Out Changes
Originally, the idea was for our Stellar Support Project Healing Day Out to be given directly as a gift to Stellar, not tied to a stretch goal, but then to use that as a starting point to create Makestar stretch-goals to improve the Healing Day Out. As it turns out, there seem to have been some objection from management from doing this because they want it tied directly to a stretch-goal (700% level), perhaps because there will be a greater impact on the funding project. The impact of this is that the Healing Day Out will no longer be from Stellar Support Project Twinkles, but from all Twinkles that are a part of the Makestar project. Stellar Support Project Twinkles will still be given recognition and names/nicknames credited for spearheading the push to reach this stretch-goal to make the Healing Day Out happen for Stellar's members, but the project will not longer be personal to just us, so will look a little different to our previous projects. Please look below for the full summary of changes.

Summary of Changes below:
  • The Healing Day Out will not be given as a direct gift from SSP, but will be tied to the 700% stretch goal, for Stellar.
    • This means SSP contributors won't be credited as solely the ones for the gift, but will still be credited on Makestar as having spearheaded hitting the Healing Day Out stretch-goal.
  • To have all Twinkles involved, Makestar is planning to do a poll to decide what will be done for the day, and the additional add-on improvements to the day (which will be added to the day based on higher level stretch-goals); This means how the actual day looks may be different from what I've presented to you guys so far (it may not be a Spa after-all).
What stays the same:
  • We still contribute the funds for the Healing Day Out ($2200) directly to Makestar, which will help bump up the funding % by ~25%, helping to achieve the Healing Day Out stretch-goal, and bringing us closer to the later stretch-goals (which are still being approved at the moment).
My Thoughts & How I think we should proceed
I was actually taken a little off-guard when the changes were presented to me, because it means that the Healing Day Out will no longer so much be from the Stellar Support Project Contributors. This brought up three concerns in my mind:
  1. Will Stellar Support Project Contributors still be properly acknowledged for your contributions leading up to the Healing Day Out?
  2. The Stellar Support Project will have much less control on how the Healing Day Out will look like. Am I going to be able to make sure the day is still going to be a great and worthwhile experience for the girls, as I have been saying so far?
  3. Are the funds that Stellar Support Project Contributors so generously contributed, going to be effectively used for Stellar members?
I spent the last two days thinking about this, and here are my thoughts for each point.
  1. Will Stellar Support Project Contributors still be properly acknowledged for your contributions leading up to the Healing Day Out?
Stellar Support Project Contributors will still be acknowledged for your contributions on Makestar for spearheading the push for funding for the Healing Day Out, which Stellar members will no doubt see as well.

  2. The Stellar Support Project will have much less control on how the Healing Day Out will look like. Am I going to be able to make sure the day is still going to be a great and worthwhile experience for the girls, as I have been saying so far?
While the control of how the day will look like will now be up to Makestar and Stellar's management, I think I will still be able to retain some control, as Stellar's Ambassador on Makestar, to help represent fans to make the day a good experience for the girls. Throughout discussion with Makestar, it has also become clear that their commitment is to give the girls some good time off to relax and enjoy, given that it is what fans want as well.

  3. Are the funds that Stellar Support Project Contributors so generously contributed, going to be effectively used for Stellar members?
This is probably the biggest point for me because, throughout the Stellar Support Project, I've been telling you that all the funds raised will be used directly for the girls. This time, however, because the proposal is for us to contribute the funds as a direct contribution to Makestar's project, and because I will have less control over how the day for Stellar will actually look, I will have low control over how much of the funds we contribute will be used for the day.
However, despite this, I think it will be an effective use of funds because the funds will still benefit Stellar as a group in one way or another, and help us forward what we're trying to achieve:
    • It will help boost Stellar's funding for their album production
    • It will help boost the % for later stretch goals, including the ones we're still working on now.
      • On a side note, Makestar has proposed Gayoung's Twinkle Song stretch-goal to TEP now, and are waiting to hear back. If this gets approved, our contribution will also, of course, be moving us closer to making that happen as well.
    • It will help show management that it's worth listening to fans for what we want, and likely be more open to doing things for the girls like this in future, as it helps them get what they want (better funding for their album production).
I think everything effectively boils down to the following:
What these changes effectively mean is that:
  • Stellar Support Project will have less control over how the Healing Day Out will look like
However, what stays the same is that:
  • The girls get a fun and relaxing day out
  • They get to feel the love and appreciation from Twinkles
  • They'll get to be motivated
  • Their company will probably be open to doing more things for the girls like this in future, seeing that it's something that fans want, that also helps them get what they want (better funding for their album production).
  • Stellar Support Project Contributors still get recognized more officially, on Makestar, for the support of Stellar
Looking from this perspective I think despite some changes in details, it will still be worthwhile for us to proceed with this.

What do you think?
I told Makestar I wanted to discuss with you guys about the changes first, so for now, Makestar has hidden the 700% stretch-goal until they hear back from me. I've told them I'll get back to them by Sunday/Monday on how we'll proceed.

So what do you guys think about the changes? After having thought through it all, I think it's still worthwhile to proceed, but I also wanted to provide an opportunity to hear from you guys in case there were any concerns or objections, and to see if we can address them. Please email me at stellar.twinkles[at]gmail.com by Monday 9am KST, 2017.01.30, if you do.

For myself, I think that this is an opportunity that we should continue with, as we'll still have plenty of opportunities to raise more funds for other things for Stellar in future too.

That's it for this update! Look forward to hearing from you guys on your thoughts.
