Direct-Fired, Make-Up Air Handlers
with Energy Recovery Modules!
One of our projects involving Energy Recovery Modules took us to a Manufacturing facility outside Philadelphia. This customer was looking to upgrade from a steam boiler heating system. Their goals were to improve employee comfort, while reducing production waste.
This customer added increasing amounts of exhaust in an effort to improve their product quality. This had the opposite effect. The resulting extreme negative in the space made product cure times vary dramatically, depending upon the activity of nearby dock doors. The varying cure times actually added to the unacceptable level of product rejects. In addition to higher production costs, the plant workers were miserable.
A building survey revealed that 80,000 CFM of make-up air would provide sufficient air for ventilation and building pressurization. To achieve this condition, two (2) 40,000 CFM make-up air handlers equipped with variable frequency drives and energy recovery modules were installed to supply conditioned air for make-up of process exhaust.
The results were remarkable!
