PARISH BULLETIN
The First Sunday of Lent

This week at Holy Spirit Parish, we began that annual solemn fast of Lent which can be for us a profound time of 'returning to the Lord with our whole hearts.' There are two temptations during this season - one, which is to stake our whole spirituality on having a good and rigorous Lent; the other, to be hopeless or apathetic in the face of this annual call to turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel. In either case we are denying our hearts the chance to burn with the fire of Divine Love; either because as little as one fault or failure will be enough to quench the flames, or because we don't care enough to become enkindled in the first place.

The middle way, the real 'itinerary of conversion' which the Church offers us, is rigorous enough to spark the flames within us but docile enough to allow them to blow with the winds of failure, set-backs, and human weakness, rather than be snuffed out by them.

May we use this first full week of Lent to orient ourselves along the right path in our Lenten itinerary. If we have been tepid in our willingness to embrace the disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, perhaps this week is our opportunity to take one very small step. And, if we have been trying in these first few days to do EVERYTHING Lent has to offer, we have the chance to take a step backwards and simplify our routine.

33-Day Preparation and Consecration to St. Joseph
May 1 is the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and an excellent day to consecrate yourself to Joseph as a spiritual father. Beginning on March 30, those who are interested will begin preparing for consecration using the 33-day preparation guided by the Litany of St. Joseph from the popular text by Fr. Donald Calloway.

This can be done individually or in a small group - please contact Brandon - b.schetgen@dbqarch.org - by March 15 if you would like to participate.

Consecrate yourself to St. Joseph - open to anyone and everyone!

SCRIP Update
Beginning in March, Scrip will only be processed on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month.  Please have your orders in by 8:30 am on Monday morning.  For example: March 7th & 21st; April 4th & 18th and in May 2nd & 16th. Any questions, please call the parish office.
