Empowerhouse receives grant from The Women and Girls Fund

Empowerhouse was among three organizations awarded grant money at the recent Women and Girls Fund Live Ballot event.

This grant will make possible the production of a new local education film to equip teens with the facts about the warning signs of relationship abuse.

With young women aged 16-24 experiencing the highest rate of intimate partner violence (almost triple the national average), this film will be a powerful tool to educate and facilitate discussion in area classrooms.
Empowerhouse staff and board members lobbied support for a new teen film at the Women and Girls Fund Live Ballot event.
Support from Our Community

The General Federation of Women's Clubs, made up of over 3,000 local women's clubs across the country, has made domestic violence awareness and prevention its signature project for 2014-2016.

The local Woman's Club of Fredericksburg donated over $600 to Empowerhouse with the proceeds from their 65th Annual Fredericksburg Art Show and Sale held in March 2016.

This gift will be used to relaunch the "Privy Project," a poster project aimed at reaching victims of abuse in a private place. The posters, which hang in bathroom stalls in schools, churches, and doctor's offices, will be redesigned, printed, and distributed across the community.

The posters ask a series of questions to help the reader identify what they are experiencing as domestic violence and lists Empowerhouse contact information and services to offer a lifeline for help.

Many survivors have come to Empowerhouse as a result of this project. We thank the Woman's Club of Fredericksburg for their leadership and the impact their gift will make in reaching more victims of domestic violence in our community.
Thank you to all who helped raise over $67,000 through The Community Give. Your support brings us closer to completing our new domestic violence shelter, expected to open July 2016. Thank you to The Community Foundation, The Hagerman Group, & sponsors of this event.
Memorial Day, May 30th, is the last Steak Out for Charity benefitting Empowerhouse. Order this delicious $6 steak dinner and $1 will support survivors of domestic violence. Details here.
