CFSA's THE STEW

Dear Richard,

It's common this time of year to look back—to see what went well in 2018. While we're doing our share of reflection, we're too excited for the upcoming year to bore you with what we've already done. Instead, our team wants to share what we're most looking forward to!

But before you scroll down, we invite you to join us at Whole Foods Market tomorrow to shop with a purpose!



Whole Foods chose CFSA as the benefactor of their 5% Community Giving Program. This means that 
5% of all sales from stores throughout NC and SC tomorrow will go to CFSA. Whether you plan to fill your pantry or buy a bottle of lemon juice, every penny helps!

And remember, there are many good CFSA-member farms that sell products at Whole Foods Markets. See this blog post for more info on the day and list of farms.

What are we excited about for 2019? 


Marianna - Membership Coordinator
One of my favorite events on our calendar is the Piedmont Farm Tour. Where else can you visit an independent dairy (and buy a cup of homemade vanilla ice cream, naturally), an intensively managed urban farm, and a glorious ranch on the banks of the Haw River in one weekend? This year's tour, April 27-28, will feature 50 farms and utilize 200 volunteers to welcome 3,000 visitors. I love meeting farmers new to the tour and catching up with tour veterans. Last year, I even ran into two tour visitors who had attended all 33 tours! 

Elizabeth - Communications and Development Director
This year is the 10-year anniversary of the Elma C. Lomax Research and Education Farm. While I'm excited about a lot that the farm is doing, I'm particularly excited about our new program, Student Outdoors Immersive Learning at Lomax (SOILL). This program provides hands-on, participatory learning opportunities to K-12 students on soil health, biological life cycles, and the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) associated with vegetable farming.


Ashley - Communications Coordinator
I am super excited for our two keynotes at this year's Organic Commodities and Livestock Conference in Raleigh next month. Denise O'Brien (of Rolling Acre Farms in Atlantic, Iowa) and Faylene Whitaker (of Whitaker Farms in Climax, North Carolina) are two strong women with a long history in agriculture. I look forward to the pearls of wisdom they have to share!

Rachel - Development Coordinator
I have two! I'm super excited about our fundraising event with Whole Foods Market tomorrow. It's an incredible opportunity for our staff to get out and meet folks all around the Carolinas, while also raising awareness and funding for our new RESEED Recovery Fund that helps farmers affected by Hurricanes Florence and Michael get back on their feet.
While there is plenty to share in the coming months, we're keeping this edition short and sweet. Here's a sneak preview of content to come in the next few months:
