HOW ABOUT A BREAK?

“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit."

– Banksy

IN THE POOL WITH MY MOSCOW MULE

Last week I took an eight-day break from real life—including social media. Anyone who knows me would say how uncharacteristic this was for me, because to know me is to know that resting is not my specialty. But as part of my year of health, I’ve dedicated myself to creating time for relaxation, as well as paying extra attention to hydration, weight, exercise, general downtime, saying no, and finding moments that feel like vacation, whether big or small. I am convinced that this combination is the route to good health.

HOTEL ESENCIA IS SO RESTFUL

My time away included an intentional social media break. Frankly, I wasn’t sure I could do it! Typically, I am connected to my phone 24/7, but once I committed and set aside the time, I did it! I was honestly surprised that I didn’t even peek at Instagram once. It was a great break for my mind and easier than expected. Designating time to slow down enough to hear my own thoughts was legendary!

I LOVE SPENDING TIME WITH MY GUY

Recently, @candacemread said on Instagram that her well was dry. What an amazing description! I was feeling the same way before my vacation. We live in a society that’s all about go-go-go--and I’m a leader in that movement. But specializing in getting things done may be to my detriment at times, because it causes me to overdo and whips me into a bit of a frenzy.

LUCY AND I
It was delightful to have a week of being in tune with my own rhythms: going to sleep when I was tired, waking up naturally, getting plenty of exercise, enjoying ample time with my partner and family, and having unstructured periods of doing whatever I wanted, like hanging out on a lounge chair, watching the ocean, swimming, and enjoying dinner with loved ones.

The trick is to build “vacation” time into our everyday lives when leaving town isn’t feasible, whether it’s a walk around the block, mindfully unplugging, reading a book, or intentionally pausing to hear our own thoughts.

VACATION TERI LOVES TIE DYE
The best part of my week of rest was feeling my mind slow down, which allowed me to think freshly again.  I feel so rejuvenated and truly grateful. This week, I have asked some friends to share their ideas on rest. You’ll find their thoughts below.

In this episode, I was excited to sit down with fellow cookbook author Danielle Renov of @peaslovencarrots, who truly inspires the best in people! We are connected by our love of food, family, and faith. Like me, she follows her parents’ and grandparents’ footsteps by speaking her truth and desiring to make a difference in the world, while truly being herself. Danielle talks about how changing yourself changes the world, conscious consumerism, the grueling process of cookbook writing, content creation, her deep connection to Judaism, her upcoming tv show, and prunes!

THE PRACTICE OF REST
CANDACE READ

When I am not taking time to properly rest, recharge, and refuel, I am not giving the best of myself to my family, clients, brand partners, and community. As an energizer bunny, I have to consistently practice rest, making it a part of my daily routine by allowing time to ease online in the morning, taking a lunch break, taking a power nap, having a hard stop at the end of the day. Rest isn’t about one day of doing nothing; it is a practice. We must integrate into our daily lives to understand how rest can wholly change us for the better.

REST: NOT A REWARD BUT A NECESSITY!
CLARA JONES
As a labor and delivery nurse, nurse practitioner student, lifestyle blogger, and wife, my schedule is always packed. I regularly remind myself that rest can’t be treated as a reward—that’s just asking for burnout. You always deserve a break, a moment to breathe, and space to ground yourself and remind yourself of your “why.” Rest is necessary to growth and success. After all, we don’t expect our cars to run on empty, do we? I challenge you to take ten minutes today to schedule some rest this week. Let’s prioritize and normalize taking breaks to fill up our tanks.

REST IS NONNEGOTIABLE
CHRISTINA CURP
Teri and I chatted recently about our go-go-go personalities, which most entrepreneurs seem to have! As a woman with an autoimmune disease, if I don’t stop, my body will demand it with fatigue and inflammation, or even by catching a cold. The stress hormone corticosteroid can impact your immune system! Setting strong boundaries and asking for help are two ways I make sure to get enough rest. Get the family to help with meal prep. Turn off your phone evenings and weekends. Let your spouse put the kids to bed while you take a long bath. When you’re rested, you’re better, and everyone around you is too!

I CAN CONFIRM: MOTHERS LOVE POTTERY

Mother’s Day is such a great time to share a beautiful piece of nocrumbsleft pottery! Here are some of my favorite gift ideas:

  • An Everything Bowl is the quintessential Mother’s Day gift. It’s a piece that any cook will happily use every single day in the kitchen.
  • As a first piece of kitchen jewelry, a Crum-bowl, a Marinated Onion Bowl, or a Patty Bowl will thrill your favorite mom.
  • There’s nothing prettier than a Daffodil Bigger Bowl for a pop of color in the kitchen. I love mine both for bigger prep jobs as well as for serving.
  • An entire Nesting Bundle is the ultimate in luxury. While it’s not for someone on a budget, it’s certainly a gift that will be treasured.
OUR BEAUTIFUL NESTING BUNDLES ARE PRETTY SPECTACULAR
Because all pieces are glazed to order, orders placed now won’t make it in time, but as part of your Mother’s Day gift Teri will offer a fun, personalized Instagram story for your gift recipient to let her know it’s on the way. Once you’ve made the purchase, let Teri know and she will get the details from you and happily do a story for your mother, wife, sister, or friend. Also, newsflash: Saturday and Sunday we have free U.S shipping in the shop
