Citrus is a such a bright spot for me in the winter, and a special way to celebrate seasonal cooking. I love to embrace tangerines, blood oranges, clementines, lemons, limes, and grapefruit. Each will give an everyday dish a unique bit of zing, making citrus a spectacular way to elevate your weekday cooking.

WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN FRESH CALIFORNIA CITRUS?
|
|
Embracing citrus can be as simple as adding beautiful lemon halves and a squeeze of juice to my Mason jar of water. Tangerine or clementine juice, along with halves floating in my jar of water, is a current favorite and simply makes me feel better about life.

I LOVE HAVING MY CITRUS WATER EVERY DAY
|
|
Whether you use it in your own water, in your Whole30 mayo, in a vinaigrette along with olive oil, squeezed over a piece of cooked fresh fish, or as a finisher for your chicken piccata, now is the moment to celebrate citrus. Recently the Sumo Citrus people sent me a box of their beautiful Sumo oranges, and they are fantastic!

CITRUS IS AN INCREDIBLE FINISHER FOR DISHES OF ALL KINDS

Supremed grapefruit with avocado and a lovely vinaigrette makes great easy weeknight eating. Going a step beyond the simple, my Whole30 Citrus Chopped Salad, topped by my Creamy Clementine Dressing, is a spectacular way to feature citrus.

WHOLE30 CITRUS CHOPPED SALAD

Now is the perfect time of year to make my Preserved Meyer Lemons because they last forever in the fridge. The trick is you absolutely must use Meyer lemons! They’re a hybrid citrus fruit native to China—a cross between a citron and a mandarin/pomelo hybrid. They have a thinner peel and are less acidic than regular lemons. Once preserved, they are fantastic with almost anything when you want to add a citrusy, briny flavor: a marinade, soup, stir fry, or a fish dish come to mind, but try updating your favorite dishes with a bit of preserved lemon.
