Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

There's something so amazing about New Year's weekend, especially if you're living somewhere with cold weather. It's time to hunker down, spend time with friends, make some delicious food and enjoy a cocktail.
As a celebration food, Crab Cakes are so special and delectable, but there is this giant caveat: you absolutely must use fresh crab. Something to know about me is that I have some strong opinions about food, and one of them is that if you’re going to spend money on crab, use fresh or lump, and not pasteurized. Crab Cakes are perfect for New Year’s Day paired with Monie’s Carrot Cake for dessert—the recipe is in my book!

Lobster Cobb is a magnificent salad for a holiday gathering. Here’s a pro tip: you can often find mini lobster tails in the seafood section of the grocery store for around $7.99 each, and they are absolutely ideal for a salad like this. This is super festive with shrimp too and is a total crowd pleaser. Speaking of more seafood, my Friday Night Seafood Platter is another delicious spread to make for a group that has something for everyone!

Consider platters as a lifestyle. A couple of my favorites are this Whole30 Super Bowl Platter and this gorgeous California Grown platter! I did this huge table sized platter on a New Year’s Eve when Lucy was having friends over, and I wanted something easy to eat over a long period of time, as I knew there would be some drinking happening along with the evening. The sky’s the limit, and you can pair the items you like together: cheeses, salami, cookies, chocolates, lovely sauces, crudités, and more of your own favorites.

My family is full of BIG eaters, so I make sure to have lots of small bites before the main holiday meal. We always do a charcuterie board, a few traditional family appetizers, and then some sort of toast. I love serving toast because it’s easy to make special, yet so simple to prepare. This year I’m making caramelized brussels sprout toast with burrata, bacon, hazelnuts, lemon zest, and honey. It’s sweet & salty, slightly decadent, perfectly seasonal, and something I think everyone will love!

I was traipsing through the local food mart when I spied a basket of gorgeous baguettes. I thought of Ina Garten's favorite snack--baguettes with butter and prosciutto. How to make something like this vegan? Back in my kitchen, I added a dab of vegan butter to each lovely loaf, and then thinly sliced cucumber, tomatoes, and Teri's Marinated Onions (the umami flavor makes up for the lack of meat). It was the perfect gift to myself this holiday season!

The holiday season can be overwhelming, so menu items for a crowd should be kept very simple to avoid this. Using good quality ingredients to put a spin on traditional favorites is a great way to make a recipe special without testing something new for the first time right before a party. This seasonal persimmon, prosciutto, and mint platter can be served as a beautiful shareable appetizer. It is so easy to put together and requires zero cooking!

So many of you have asked why the Patrick bowls and the platters are always sold out in the shop, and that's because they are only available by private link to blog subscribers. All you have to do is DM me so you can get on the list! We're also really excited to announce that the Let's Go Mug is now in Malachite (without the "Let's Go" logo).
