UNPLUG IN DECEMBER
"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you."

– Anne Lamott
HAPPY FRIDAY!
Last night I was asked, “What do you do for self-care that grounds you?” It really made me reflect on the many ways in which my self-care has shifted over the past year. A year ago at this time, I had injured myself and was having a hard time managing my day-to-day physical life. As it turns out, in so many ways, that injury was an amazing blessing, because it made me slow down the pace of my life—my inclination has long been to push through.
MY GUYS, ROY AND HENRY, AT OUR CABIN
I was with my friend Kate when that question came up, and she said what she does to ground herself is to spend time with her dogs. It slows her down and reminds her what’s important. The answer is different for each of us. For me, taking supplements like turmeric, using my red light daily, and intermittent fasting, and moving toward spending as many nights in Michigan as I do in Chicago have all helped me move into a more balanced and grounded place.
MY RED LIGHT IS PART OF MY SELF-CARE ROUTINE

I’m so delighted to be getting out and enjoying the world, and I hope you’ll find meaningful ways to do that too. Life waits for no one, so taking the time to reflect on that question and create a life that is rich in self-love and self-care can be an essential Magic Elixir for each of us. I would love to know what self-care specifically looks like for you. My hope is that you will build it in as much as possible in the new year.

I LOVE TO TRAVEL TO FARAWAY PLACES

As part of addressing my own tendency toward overworking, I’m taking a well-deserved Friday Favorites hiatus over the holidays. I’ll be back again in January! I’m grateful for all the ways in which you show up in this community. It makes a tangible difference in my life, and I know it does it in others’ lives as well. Thank you!

MY, HOW I LOVE A CONTEST!

There’s nothing I love more than a contest! I love inspiring people to get into the kitchen, and I especially enjoy shouting one another out. This month, that means our December cooking contest! You may know that prunes are one of my favorite cooking ingredients. I’m excited to be partnering with California Prunes to give away some wonderful prizes, and all you have to do to win is cook! Post your finished product, tag @nocrumbsleft and @caprunes, and you’re entered! One grand prize winner gets a $500 gift card to @madein, and three more winners get $100 gift cards. Plus, every winner gets @caprunes swag. To sweeten the deal, I’m randomly giving away one no crumbs left apron and one no crumbs left Marinated Onion Bowl to two lucky participants. These unique items are not available anywhere else!

The contest ends on December 28, so get cooking, people!

HOW AMAZING DO THESE LOOK?

I have nearly a dozen wonderful recipes on my blog that use prunes, and you’re welcome to use any or all of them, or even one of your own! Prunes are lovely as part of a pork roast, macerated with caramelized onions on a burger or a grilled cheese, and amazing as an alternative to sugar. Not to mention they’re spectacular for your gut health and your bones. Check out our wonderful prune recipes HERE and remember to post and tag! Enter as many times as you’d like. Each post or story is a separate entry. If your account is private, DM me for details.
