CONGRATULATIONS JANUARY CONTEST WINNERS!

The task for January's Master Photographers was to capture a great shot of a Sea Snake. The photo could be taken anywhere in the world.  Winning this month's Master's Category honors is Wayne MacWilliams with his photo, Steely Eyed Missile. 

Placing second and third was Suzan Meldonian's Gaze Into My Eyes and Wayne MacWilliams', Swim Into The Light. Congratulations winners and keep submitting those great images!
The Challenger's Category required photographers to shoot Subjects that live in/or sit on the sand. Taking first place honors this month is Jason Spitz with From the Sand I Come.  Jason did a beautiful job of isolating his lighting on the blenny. 

Placing second through fifth place was Zarina Staller's, Gliding Along the Sea, Tony Barros' Ready to Spear, Debbie Wallace's Seeing Double, and Heidi Thoricht's, Berrys Bobtail Squid. Congratulations to all!

SFUPS MEMBERS IN THE NEWS

Suzan Meldonian has been published in the Indonesian Book, Flores Timur Underwater, featuring the beauty of East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara and the Straits of Meko Atoll.  It has 70 photographs from 14 photographers from around the world and about half of the photos contained in the book are Suzan's!  Congratulations!

SOCIAL NIGHT Shark Team One with Angela Smith - 6:15 - 8:30 pm - Friday, February 24th Catch the South Florida premiere of Shark Team One's latest short film, Tiger Sharks Fight for Survival.  Join us as Angela Smith, founder of Shark Team One, discusses the expedition that inspired the film. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine, or bring a dish of your own to share. 

PADI Blue Heron Bridge Distinctive Specialty - Friday, March 10th & Saturday, March 11th  This speciality is ONLY offered through Pura Vida Divers. Join us for a presentation about the Blue Heron Bridge during our Social Night on March 10th. Complete the certification the next morning with an AM dive at the Blue Heron Bridge. The class focuses on finding hidden creatures, fish ID, dive site orientation, dive etiquette, and proper buoyancy.  $10 will be donated to Project AWARE for each student that signs up. 

 
SPIEGEL GROVE TRIP with Force E  - JANUARY 28, 2017   We will be running down to Key Largo to dive the wreck of the Spiegel Grove. The wreck was sunk in 2002, and is part of the artificial reef system in Key Largo. The cost is $75, plus tax and includes tanks, weights, and snacks.
