World Wide Wrap
Sunday morning February 7th, Jews around the world will participate in the WORLD WIDE WRAP, an event which, for the past 21 years, has encouraged Jews to learn about and use Tefillin, the prayer phylacteries which we wear on our arms and on our heads on weekday mornings. This event is very popular and is open to all people: Women's League of Conservative Judaism is joining the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs (FJMC) to celebrate and hold online events, as it is difficult this year for us to gather in person.
The Western Region of the FJMC will hold its event from 10am-11am PST, and it will include a 5 minute presentation from Stuart Wald on the origins and history of tefillin, as well as reviews of the related prayers, demonstrations of and assistance in wrapping and a short morning service. You need to register in advance. Once registered, you will receive the Zoom link. This event is free. You are also invited to stay on after 11am, and join Western Region's Man of the Year/Youth of the Year annual celebration, where we salute Jewish leaders both old and very new. You register at https://jewishmen.org/fjmc-www-moy-registration.
Earlier in the morning, FJMC and Women's League will hold a separate World Wide Wrap event, starting at 6:30 am PST with a wrapping demonstration and a choice of a Learner's or Traditional Minyan, and then a special program at 8:00 am PST, "Tefillin: A New Look at an Old Ritual" with prominent guest speakers. You need to register in advance at https://www.fjmc.org/wrap and you will get a link sent to you for the live streams.
Purim Zoom Celebration, Thursday, February 26th in the evening. Come in costume, at least from the waist up and bring your own home-made groggers! We will read the Megillat Esther in English. More details to follow.
