Dear Club Member.

What a great start to the opening up of rugby and our club. We are progressing from training & friendlies to full competition and our teams are producing great results and strong performances. The J1’s under the Captaincy of Ryan O’Loughlin have reached the semi-finals of the Metro cup and the friendlies at U20’s and J3’s were a pleasure to watch.

The Leinster Leagues start on Saturday the 4th, with home a game against Trinity followed by the J1’s Metro Cup Semi-final on Sunday at 3pm against Terenure in Lakelands. Then the 1st’s have a home game against Lansdowne on the 11th September followed by a clash of the parishes against Terenure on the 18th of September in Lakelands.

The J3’s play Naas in the Moran Cup on Friday 3rd of September at home. So it all kicks off with a busy start to the season!

In addition to rugby, there are so many positive developments in the club over the last two months.

New Terrace Getting Plenty Of Use.

We have seen the wonderful welcoming work done on our terrace making it a lovely venue for a relaxing drink. This is  has been complimented with a New 75 inch TV allowing us to watch sports outdoors.

Centenary Bar Renovation.

A new Floor is being installed provided by Canadia Floors, (with great support from Charlie Hamilton) a new colour scheme and a revarnishing of the bar will make the Centenary bar as good as new.  We’ll be re-opening the Centenary bar soon. On behalf of all members, I would like to thank Charlie Hamilton of Canadia for all his support, which has been very significant,  in bringing this bar renovation project together.

Introducing The Banana Cup

To celebrate the memory of one of our Stallworth club members Joe Fanagan, who sadly left us last year, Denise, Suzie and Jody Fanagan have donated a wonderful trophy  called the Banana Trophy, dedicated to an annual challenge between St. Mary’s College RFC & Terenure College RFC U20’s only. Each season a friendly (If such a thing exists between Mary’ & Terenure) is played between the two club’s U20’s teams. The winners of which claim the Banana Trophy. What a wonderful tribute to a great man. Thank you to the Fanagan family for all their support.

Celebrating Our Youthful Leinster Players

Another great positive this month was seven St. Mary’s  Youth players selected onto various Leinster Panels. Two girls and four boys all home grown. Remember these names they are all ones to watch, and there’s more to come.

  • Laoise Devlin      U18 Girls
  • Anna Brennock   U18 Girls (Bistos)

  • Adam Kelly         U16 Metro
  • William Hook     U16 Metro

  • Gordon Tracy    U17 Metro

  • Senan Phelan   U18 Metro

  • Ben Howard      U18 Schools

This is a great time in their lives and all coaches from Mini’s to Youths who played a part in their growth should be very proud of their efforts and place on their journey.

Coach The Coaches Session

On Saturday morning 40 of the Mini’s & Youth coaches engaged with Leinster on a Coach The Coaches session. So we are prepared, up and ready to keep developing a new batch of Leinster Players and Mini’s and Youth start back shortly.

Girls Rugby.

Watch this space, it is starting to happen. Sarah Fallon-Brennan and Joe Shine are pioneering the growth in women’s rugby from the ground up. Our aim is to have a number of Girls only teams and grow this through all age groups into a fully sustainable adult women’s team.

St. Mary’s Annual Golf Classic

Teeing off on Friday morning the 3rd of September all teams are ready for a great day. The sponsorships are all in and Franke Kennedy and Marie Hammond have done  brilliant job. Thank you. There will be a prize giving in the club Friday evening.

POET’S Lunch.

The POET’s lunch is back in style, commencing at 2pm on Friday the 17th of September, Olympian Terry Kennedy will tell us of his experience in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Niall Rynne will be our MC getting into the nitty-gritty of Olympian preparation. Well done Paul Pender and Niall for organising.

Signed Lions Jersey 2021.

We also have a Lions Jersey signed by all the 2021 team for auction. So get your bids into Marie Hammond as quickly as possible.

Sponsorship.

It also great to have SoftCo on board for yet another season. Their on-going support has been a powerful boost to our club and we really appreciate their engagement. This is complimented by the great support from Gerry McCormack’s GMACK. As well as providing a great player GMACK brings a great level of support in many different areas of the club. Also our sincere thanks to all our sponsors Morgan Crowe, Fanagan Funeral and the Charlie Chawke Group. Their contributions and support are a key contributing factor to the long term sustainability of our club.

Ground Maintenance.

Tree trimming very much in progress and we have a new tarmacked section of the carpark. The ground is looking better than it ever has.

So a big thank you to the Sponsors, Officers, Executive, Members and their supporting teams for all the positive work done to kick-off a great season.   I forecast this is going to be a great year. Make sure you join us for the journey.

See you all very soon.
