Roundtable Wednesday; Walkabout Saturday

This week's ROUNDTABLE will take place  Wednesday, April 13 from 6:30 til 8:30 pm. at the Neighborhood Preservation Center, located on 232 E.11th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

The ROUNDTABLES feature experts, stakeholders and public in a brainstorming session to build nature-based and green infrastructure to increase permeability in the Lower East Side of New York City.

This week’s round-table features:
Gigi Li, Chairperson of Community Board 3

Lee Trotman, NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority)

Lilah Mejia, GOLES (Good Old Lower East Side)

Shino Tanikawa, NYC SWIM (Stormwater Infrastructure Matters)

Tato Brijo, Loisaida Center


Gardens Rising is inspired in Super Storm Sandy, a project funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development through the NY Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery to control flooding in vulnerable city areas with nature-based infrastructure in our NYCCGC community gardens.
All interested parties are invited to participate.

The Second Gardens Rising Walkabout will take place at 3pm with the Middle Earth Group at El Jardin del Paraiso on E.4th St between Avenues C & D.

This walkabout will be in conjunction with the LUNGS Spring Awakening Celebration, in which everyone is invited to participate, see details below:

This Saturday, April 16, the weather will break sweetly for our Third Spring Awakening. We will begin at 6B Garden at 1:30 pm with a festive walk through the neighborhood led by the amazing percussive band, Ay Mayo.

We hope you will bring incredible Earth Mother Spring Love Banners, wear colorful glad rags and walk lightly with happy feet.

Musicians and noise enthusiasts are encouraged to join in the festivities. We will walk up Avenue B to 12th Street, east on 12th and down Avenue C ending at El Jardin del Paraiso at about 3pm.

At El Jardin, the party will continue with music and  a plethora of pleasing poetry.

Please Bring something top share. We be offering potluck food and drink.

In Addition:
Gardens Rising will conduct a walkabout in El Jardin to discuss issues specific to that garden.

We will also have a Spring Bike Ready Check Up.

Solar 1 will present ideas for the gardens and the neighborhood and a Solar1 fun world for kids.

There will be a Seed Swap so bring seeds to exchange.

LES Ready will also be at El Jardin.

And there will be a garden membership drive to bring in new people.

Throughout April and May Gardens Rising will be scheduling walkabouts in various gardens to discuss issues specific to that garden. This will be an opportunity for you offer ideas and talk about solutions for your garden.
We ask that each participating garden have one to several reps available on that day. We will talk for about 15-20 minutes to understand what is possible in terms of green infrastructure and how that can potentially meet the specific needs of your garden.
