Thank you!
A sincere thank you to the all the people who came in and helped us get to 50% of the business we did in 2019. You sustained us despite the tsunami of people working from home, or semi-quarantined and not needing to look at the wardrobes they normally use going to work, traveling, dining out and participating in wedding, charity benefits and other celebrations.
We wouldn't have made it without you. Above are just a few shots of the many personal outfits created during pandemic.
The Return of Wedding Plans
In 2020 almost every wedding planned since the start of the pandemic had to be cancelled. What a mess! The good news is that many couples who didn't tie the knot in a small ceremony are scheduling for late August through year end, optimistic that at least somewhat larger gatherings are going to be allowed with a lightening of restrictions around the state. The venues have had a lot of time to prepare for social distancing, new HVAC systems and many other Covid safe precautions.
The bride and groom are still planning to dress up, even if the wedding party is going a less formal. Prospective wedding partners seeking a tailor made outfit have become one of the true bright spots for many custom tailors! Almost as important is the father of the bride or groom wanting to spruce up, including the casual outfit for the groom's dinner.
If you're thinking about having a suit made, and want to talk with us to ask the usual questions, we can set that up with ZOOM and get the logistics of what you're looking for.  Then we can proceed with what the fabric options will be. Get in touch and tell us when the wedding or special occasion is so we can start planning before you even get in the front door to be measured.
Since the pandemic, many of us have gotten used to Zoom to carry on face to face interactions with bosses, co-workers and friends. For many this included greeting others in t-shirts, pajamas, and sweat pants. That's getting old, and professionals are taking heed and at least putting on a button up shirt, sometimes with a vest or sweater to sit in front of the camera. For that reason, take your shirts to the cleaners and have them pressed, and pull out the magnetic collar stays to hold your collars in place sans ties. As we've always said, the face is the most important part of a person's appearance. Now more than ever, well designed custom collars are as important as that selfie ring of light that's being used to try and make people's faces look more attractive.
At Top Shelf, we're using Zoom, FaceTime, Lime, and Google Meet to allow customers to virtually come into our shop and walk around and see shirt samples, and have FaceTime for initial consultations. We've even sent out suits and jackets to clients in other states and with the help of a friend or partner with an iPhone have done virtually fittings!
Spring Fabrics Have Arrived
Semi-Annually the mills of Italy and England send out books of the newest designs, and tweak the fabrications to stimulate the clients of tailors around the world that say here is something NEW! This spring is no exception. From Loro Piana yarn quality has gone up for flagship stalwarts like Tasmanian to the level of 170's, and a new fabrication called Australis has been introduced in medium and tropical stretch. Most importantly, the cost of these new materials has been made very competitive for this luxury brand.
Similarly, the new Anteprima album from Cloth by Ermenegildo Zegna, accompanied by 3 seasonal collections (Traveler 4 Seasons, Loop Summer, and a new Cotton and Linen) l is ready for viewing. Our other mainstay mills coming to us, like Vitale Barberis, Carlo Barbera, and Huddersfield Fine Worsted and United Silks and Woolens have come back after a difficult fall with a very optimistic palette for the spring summer season.

Thanks for shopping small

The vaccine roll-out appears to be bringing another layer of hope and optimism to many people. The owners of Top Shelf have been vaccinated, but we will still be wearing masks and using the same best practices to protect each other from new mutations. It will be a while before we understand when herd immunity will take over, but we think year end might still be too soon.

We plan on staying open to be able to assist our clients in any way we can. This includes alterations of existing wardrobe items. We're happy to help preserve your investments.
