Reducing Inauthentic Activity on Instagram
Since the early days of Instagram, we have auto-detected and removed fake accounts to protect our community. Today’s update is just another step in keeping Instagram a vibrant community where people connect and share in authentic ways.
With only a short announcement, the press is running wild.
i-D declares that it's "war" on fake followers.
They translate the into non press-release speak, basically translating it to: “We are going to use the algorithm to f*** you up.”
Wired's take: Instagram’s Crackdown on Fake Followers Just Might Work
As of Tuesday afternoon, a number of BlackHatters reported experiencing issues with Jarvee, one of the most recommended Instagram automation apps on the forum.
The Drum asks "is it enough?" and asked Unilever's Keith Weed about it. Who welcomed the move from Instagram, saying: “Dishonest practices like buying fake followers or fake engagement from bots pollute the entire system."
Livemint found a digital marketer who claimed that Roughly 40% of Indian Instagrammers use third-party apps to artificially increase their follower count
Newsweek's coverage mentions, Even if users have never purchased followers, it is possible that they have signed up for some third-party app without realizing it. If that is the case, Instagram will notify the user via an in-app message. Users will then be asked if they wish to change their password.

The community keeps growing! In the first 6 months, we went from 50 subscribers on Dec 8th, 2017 to a community of 1,038 subscribers who signed up for number 26 on June 1st, 2018. Next week, I'll let you know how big we are now.

  • The very first edition included Lil Pump's rise to No. 3 on Billboard w/ help from 60 influencers.
  • In Edition #2 we found out: You should be saying "You" three times in the first 30 seconds of your YouTube videos.
  • AdWeek had a great write-up in #11. The reporter learned what it takes to be an influencer from watching 7 work, while trapped on a boat.
  • The 16th Edition in March included a great study of Instagram usage from Social Media Today.
  • On April 20th, in Edition #20 I launched Influence 100.

Collab Corner
The @Bellas have a January trip planned to Thailand. They are looking for brands to collaborate with. 
  • Between 6 male and 6 female influencers, they total over 10 million followers.
  • Sunglasses, swimsuits, and beach-related brands will work seamlessly.
  • Also, liquor, energy drinks, coffee, adventure, can be adapted.
