Winter 2017 Newsletter

Welcome to our final newsletter of 2017. It is hard to believe Christmas and New Year's are almost here.
We wish you all a joyous, healthy, and fun filled holiday season!

Our office will be closed for the holidays as of Friday, Dec. 22 and will re-open Wednesday, January 3, 2018. .
LCHPS is hosting its first annual Christmas Campaign in order to help support older adults in our Better At Home Program.

The Better at Home program provides non-medical supports, such as transportation to appointments, grocery shopping, housekeeping, friendly visiting, minor home repairs and seasonal yardwork to help keep seniors living in their own homes safely and independently.

How can you help?
Any donations made through our Christmas Campaign will go directly to the seniors who need services the most. For example:
  • $25 donation will ensure an older adult gets housekeeping for a month
  • $50 donation will provide transportation to 5 seniors
  • $100 donation will support 5 older adults with subsidized services, so their incomes can help them with other costs, such as food, lodging, or medications.
Gift cards for grocery stores or drug stores are also appreciated and will be put straight into the hands of the people who need them the most.
LCHPS is a charitable organization that provides tax receipts.
NEW!! Lake Country Health Planning Society's Snow Angel Program!
We are trying to create a registry of willing volunteers who are able to help seniors in their neighbourhood with snow shovelling. It's a great way to help out in your community, connect with your neighbours, and give back to society. Plus, it's an invaluable service to seniors who need a helping hand. If you are interested in becoming a snow angel (as a volunteer or as a recipient) please call our office to register: 778-215-5247. We will connect you with someone in your neighbourhood.
We wish to extend our gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the Telus Community Ambassadors for once again providing their wonderful Christmas bags for seniors in Lake Country. Pictured above are two of these lovely volunteers, Annette Timm (L) and Pat Pickens (R) with our Program Manager Megan Ross (C).
The Community Ambassadors spend the entire year getting donations for seniors; filling the bags with food, hand knitted items, and a Christmas stocking, and then they drop these amazing bags at our office for us to distribute. If you know of a seniors who could use some Christmas cheer, please call our office at 778-215-5247.

A giant thank you to Garth Donhauser and the Chamber of Commerce for their generous donation of $600 to our organization!

Thank you Interior Savings!

LCHPS wishes to thank Branch Manager Bonnie Flint and Interior Savings for their generous donation of $500 for our Resource Directory. The 2018 version will be coming out in January. We are so grateful for the local support!

Car Seats Available!

LCHPS has once again partnered with the United Way of the Central Okanagan to give families in need safe and reliable car seats. These seats are donated by Costco and are convertible, meaning they are good for a child's entire car seat needs, from birth to booster. There are 5 seats available for Lake Country families. Interested families are urged to call the office, or stop by at 10080 Main Street to talk to us in person.

Lake Country Health Hub Update
Staff and volunteers are continuing to meet and research the expansion of the Lake Country Health Hub. The Lake Country Service Provider Survey is complete, and we are now following up with individuals, not-for-profit organizations and government agencies to determine what they would require to become a Hub partner and to provide services at the Hub. Please contact Megan or Brenda if you would like to discuss the Health Hub needs assessment further at 778-215-5247.

Wise & Well Program

Our Wise & Well Program was designed to strengthen the mental fitness of older adults, connect them in their community with local resources, and help alleviate any loneliness or isolation the senior might be feeling. And so far, it's off to a great start! If you, or someone you know, could benefit from having a volunteer visit a couple of hours a week, please call our office. We have trained volunteers who are ready to help.
