Wow! What an incredible, inspiring, exhausting, amazing, exciting week! I flew in on Wednesday, and went right to the convention to get my badge and start the process of figuring out where everything was and how to navigate the show floor. The entire city is a huge comic con, everything is influenced by the show, you feel like it's a city wide event.
For anyone that hasn't been to SDCC, it's very big... but the convention center could have been twice the size and still not had enough space for all the events, panels, comics, toys, artists, and awesome that was packed in. I had never been to California. I now understand why people love it there so much. The weather, the people, the energy, the beach, the culture, the food. I felt like I could spend more time there, and I hope that I'm able to get back there very soon. This trip wouldn't have been possible without Bill Walko, he's an amazing artist and a great dude.
The first day of the show i signed up for a few portfolio reviews, such an incredible experience having publishers and artists look over my work and give me feedback. There's so many talented artists and creators, it's such a thrill to get to learn and experience the business that I've always been such a huge fan of. There's no way to see or do it all, but I crammed in as much as I could!
I was able to attend a few panels, the Top Cow talent hunt was announced, I'm going to be pushing hard to create pages that will really highlight what I'm able to do as an artist and storyteller. DC announced it's new streaming platform called DC Universe, I immediately signed up. I think that it's going to be a game changer! I met Brian Pulido the publisher of Coffin Comics. I met with Aspen Comics, Action Lab, and a few other smaller publishers. I also talked with a bunch of artists, Richard Friend, Batt, Luis Rivera and a bunch of other amazing creators!
I was able to attend Cabana-Con with my good friend Ben Bishop! So great to get to chat with professionals like Ian Nichols and Santalouco. The Drawing Blood panel was incredible, I've been watching that project from behind the scenes for months and it's so awesome to see how excited the readers are to get a glimpse of all the hard work that Kevin, David and Ben have been putting into that project.
I met Marc Silvestri! Anyone that knows me, knows what a huge influence and inspiration that he is to me and my work. I chatted with him about his new Batman book and we talked process. I watched him pencil a Batman pinup, it was pretty awesome! The Top Cow guys are great, I saw Phillip Sevy and Dylan Gray and met Ryan Cady and Matt Hawkins. Those guys are so awesome, and it's such a thrill to get to chat with them and see how successful they are.
My friend Tyler Kirkham was kind enough to sign a few of his variant covers and a few mini prints with his incredible artwork on them. These are VERY LIMITED! The first four people to add $40 to any physical reward level at www.thewarhood.com will get a SIGNED book! If you aren’t one of the first four, you’ll get a SIGNED mini print!
