Successful Audit

One of the major responsibilities given to me when I was called in 2018 to manage the MNA Disaster Response Warehouse was to develop and maintain an inventory system that would let us know at any point what we have available to deploy to disaster sites. Each year, accounting staff from Mission to North America, along with an external auditor, visit the warehouse to examine the records and inventory to assure that we are carefully stewarding the resources contained within. This year, we had the special treat of having MNA Disaster Response Director Arklie Hooten and MNA DR Facilitator Sherry Lanier in town for the visit.

Mission to North America provides invaluable accounting services to MNA ministries and church planters, allowing us to focus on ministering to those in need. We thank God for their work and the care they take in administering the resources invested by God's people. Churches fund these services (and more) through the payment of MNA partnership shares (askings) each year, allowing MNA to provide these services without charging administrative fees to their missionaries/ministry organizations.

We are happy to report an audit with no adverse findings. To learn more about the MNA Disaster Response Warehouse, visit our website or contact Mike Kennamer.

Quick Notes

  • Future Work Days - Mark your calendars for upcoming work days at the warehouse:
    • October 9
    • November 13
    • December 11
We start at 9 am Eastern time. Please notify Mike Kennamer if you plan to attend.
  • Skid Steer Loader Training - We have another skid steer loader training scheduled for Saturday, November 6. If you are interested in registering, please contact Mike Kennamer. The course is limited to the first six who inquire.
  • Alabama Tornado Update - I recently traveled to Brent and Birmingham Alabama to pick up unused supplies and a trailer at Brent Presbyterian Church and Briarwood Presbyteryian Church. It is such a blessing to be able to immediately provide equipment and supplies to churches ministering to their neighbors and then pick up the unused supplies to send to the next storm. Some of the chainsaws picked up at Brent and Briarwood have been deployed to Metairie Louisiana.
  • Financial Update - Year-to-date we are under with where we were last year with contributions. Due to the many storms in our region this year, our expenses have been  higher than normal as we have used TAG Region funds to deploy trailers loaded with tools and supplies and have had increased travel expenses overall.
  • Tennessee Flooding - We were able to send 400 flood buckets to Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Dickson Tennessee to support the efforts of RPC and Nashville Presbytery in nearby Waverly, TN.
  • Training Calendar - Now is the time to get on our calendar for training and church visits this fall and winter. We love to visit churches to share about the ministry. Please contact Mike Kennamer to schedule a visit.
  • Training at the MNA Warehouse - We will host a training session from 9 am - 3 pm at the MNA Warehouse in Rome, Georgia on Saturday, January 22. Topics to be covered include: Who We Are and What We Do, 18 Ways to Serve, Disaster Response Basics--What You Might Be Doing, When the Storm Comes to You, The Lifecycle of a Response, Why We Do Disaster Response, Caring for the Hurting, and more. Ways to Serve
by Mike Kennamer

The most popular training session I do is entitled, "16 Ways to Get Involved in Disaster Response Ministry". Last month we discussed hosting a disaster response training at your church. This month we discuss serving by giving.

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:10-12

All MNA ministries are on missionary status, which means that we each have to raise funds to support the work of the ministry. That concept is not one that comes naturally for me. In fact, asking people for money is way outside my comfort zone. But through the encouragement of friends and family I have come to realize that I'm not holding a cardboard sign on the street corner, but instead asking people to join me in ministry by helping to provide the funds to assure that we have the resources to operate the ministry.

As one friend put it, I am asking people to participate in an investment with a guaranteed return. When we invest in the Kingdom of God, we know that He will bless that investment, accomplishing His purpose. Time after time I have experienced that (this and other) mercy ministry opens doors to Word ministry, and His Word does not return empty but instead accomplishes His purposes.

There is a ministry fund that supports the Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia (TAG) Region, as well as the Warehouse Manager's position. One hundred percent of the money we raise for this fund directly supports the ministry in the TAG Region and my work as warehouse manager. It is from this fund that we pay for travel expenses, tools, mileage, trailer maintenance, office expenses, phone expenses, and specialist support.

Please consider joining us in this ministry by providing a one-time or recurring donation, or donating stock toward the operation of the ministry. Contact me if you wish to learn more about the ministry and its specific needs.
