What an exciting few months for Blossom Africa! We are delighted to share the news that we have recently delivered our first Savings and Loans training sessions in Bunambutye!
Village savings and loans are a tried and tested way of accelerating growth and building local capacity. The training provides participants with the knowledge, skills and resources to participate in a safe and sustainable way of saving and borrowing. This process gives individuals and groups the opportunity to access capital to set up or expand small businesses and therefore make positive steps to working their way out of poverty.
The training was completed by two groups totaling 60 people, it was delivered in the local language and used a range of methods including role play to facilitate learning. The training was led by the Jenga team who simultaneously trained up Jeremiah and Ezra to deliver the sessions in the future. This is a hugely positive step for Blossom Africa and demonstrated a commitment from the community who enthusiastically engaged with the sessions.
The group members will now meet weekly to save and grow together. Once the group fund reaches a certain pre-agreed threshold, members will be able to request loans. We are so looking forward to hearing about all of the small business which develop as a result of this training!
At the end of the training each group received a Blossom Africa Savings and Loans Material box and are now prepared and motivated to start saving.
Next steps -
• Over the next few months we will work closely with these two groups to ensure that the training programme achieves its aims. We will undertake robust monitoring and evaluation which will enable us to measure outcomes and make improvements if necessary.
• With the support of Jenga we will ensure that Jeremiah and Ezra have all the knowledge and resources necessary to deliver these sessions in the future. Jenga will also offer some additional training to the group leaders to ensure they are confident in undertaking their roles.
• Our vision is still very much to develop the knowledge, skills and resources within the community to enable them to tackle the poverty they face. We see these groups as being on a learning journey and will work closely with them to access any additional training they need in order to make their ventures a success.
This truly is a very exciting time for Blossom Africa and we are very grateful for all of your support, we would not be able to consider supporting the community on a long term basis without the generous support of our regular donors.
If you do not already support Blossom Africa on a regular basis then we would very much appreciate you considering setting up a monthly direct debit as this will enable us to continue to plan for the future and support the community in a meaningful and impactful way!
