A Special Alpha Newsletter!

This is an update on a number of upcoming events that involve the alumni and actives of Alpha Nu Omega so you can participate in a number of ways.

UMD Homecoming - October 21

UMD's Homecoming will be coming up shortly.  The Alumni Association will be hosting a tailgating party before the football game. . Come join with brother alumni, actives and UMD dignitaries.  The tailgating party will be held in prime spots in the middle of the parking lot leading to the football field identified by banners young guys in Alpha garb and old guys pretending to be underclassmen.

Festivities begin at 11:00 AM followed by the Homecoming football game at 1:00 PM.  There will be grilled food, beer and other beverages provided with a donation.  Football tickets are modestly priced and can be purchased at the game or online.

Last year the Alpha Active Chapter entered the chariot race held during tailgating time and won it all.  They intend to repeat.

Besides the tailgating and football, UMD has many other activities going during Homecoming week that you can enjoy:

Bulldogs on the Block
On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, alumni are hosting the first-ever, nationwide UMD social event. From drinks after work to restaurant meals, barbecues on the beach to picnics in the park, Bulldogs on the Block get-togethers come in all shapes and sizes. This is a time to connect with Bulldogs in your area in a fun social setting.

There are 22 to choose from. We are especially pleased that Alpha Sweetheart and former UMD Alumni Association Director Lisa Pratt will be hosting the event at Bunnies in St. Louis Park.

60th Reunion – 2019

The Board of Directors is beginning to plan for the 60th reunion. Suggestions were made to avoid the Homecoming weekend and move the 60th reunion to September to take advantage of lower hotel rates, better weather and Active recruitment.  Mike Dean is looking at venues, but there will undoubtedly be a Duluth Experience feature.  Tim McEvoy has again agreed to handle music.

To tell the world who were are, we have created websites for not only the Alumni Association but for the Active Chapter as well: The actives can now control and update their website, but we are also providing assistance.

As you can tell, we are issuing information through periodic newsletters, but the major issue we have with Alumni is that we have email addresses for only half our membership.. If you know of brothers not receiving our communications, please forward this newsletter using the link at the very bottom or send information to:  info@alphaalumniassociation.com.

Our organization needs your donation to continue our work.  Please consider a generous tax deductible donation to our dues and donations fund.

Support the UMD Women's Cross Country and Track Team

For the last two years members of the Alumni Association have provided financial scholarship support to the UMD Women's Cross Country and Track Team.  We have raised from $1000 - $1500 each year. The team and its coach Joanna Warmington have been very grateful for our continued assistance.

We again ask for your support for a program that has been very successful (e.g. national 1500 m champion Emi Trost) despite being underfunded in comparison with UMD's competition.  Please consider a tax deductible donation that will be given in total with others in honor of the Alpha Nu Omega Alumni Association by clicking on the following donation form:

Alpha Active Chapter News

The Active Chapter continues to have quality members with good academic standing.  They participate in many campus activities and are anticipating getting involved with leadership and mentoring programs.

The Active Chapter is still challenged with low numbers and impending graduation, so they are focusing on recruitment this fall.. They report that rush is not going as well,as hoped.  They are competing against a perceived appeal of freshmen for the national fraternities and their party atmosphere, even though Alpha offers much more  They are aware of the critical need for pledging and are working with the Alumni Association in any way we can help. They also are setting up brotherhood and other rush events for prospective members. They are looking forward to Homecoming to share the day with alumni,  The Actives will be doing a much more enhanced hosting to use the event for future recruitment.  As mentioned, they aim to repeat as champions of all the campus organizations in the chariot race held during tailgating.

All is not work, however.  Here is president Isaac Winter being nominated by two sororities (Phi Sigma Sigma and Beta Lambda Psi) for their sweetheart.  He is sweet, but apparently not sweet enough.
