After the 4th of July kayak tour trip to the San Juan Islands it was back to the Sierra for some spectacular climbing and slightly unsettled weather!
Crystal Crag North Arete
Crystal Crag is the striking looking rock that sits above Lake George in Mammoth. There are 3rd class routes options but this time Jen Blackie and I decided to haul out the rock gear and try the classic 5.7 climb up the north arete.
Having climbed Crystal Crag on Saturday we set our sights on the slightly more challenging technical route on Mount Emerson. We raced thunderstorms to get up the 5th class pitches and some gnarly 4th class near the top.
After staring up at it for years three of us did a quick two day outing to climb the 3rd class route up Temple Crag from South Fork of Big Pine Creek. In addition to this being a new trailhead for me we found interesting weather and epic levels of mosquitos.
