Happy New Year 2017!

Back on field, time to share our fruit market views and expectations. But before we speak about frozen fruit and fields, all Polproduct Team wish you a healthy and fruity year 2017. May this new year bring you all the best!

FROM THE FARM
STRAWBERRY
Due to the Egyptian currency devaluation last November and a strong US Dollar vs EUR, the Egyptian exports are impacted: price expectations of strawberry crop 2017 are up by 5 to10 % compared to 2016.
Furthermore, Egypt was (as Europe) hit by an unusual cold weather, delaying harvest. However, farmers anticipated and covered their plantations. Consequently, this cold wave only slowed down the fresh market supply and postponed by a week the start of process of frozen fruit.
Volumes harvested in 2016 in Poland represented 30-35 % less than normal crop, thus there is no remaining quantity in stock. Next Polish strawberry crop is expected as from end of spring 2017.
In 2016 Moroccan crop has been more or less stable. Crop 2017 fruit processing is expected to start earlier due to fresh market situation. Today, it is too early to have some clear expectations on volumes and prices.
RASPBERRY
No more subsidies for Serbian raspberry crop 2016, prices are now more or less aligned with Polish prices for the small remaining quantities in local coldstores as per some key manufacturers.
High carryover of raspberry in POLAND. In general, prices are still very low and decreased by 9% since August 2016.
In Central and South America, the raspberry season seems to go well: Mexico producers are expanding their market beyond USA market and are becoming a new major player in the industry with more than 50K tons produced per year. In parallel, USD rate is not helping import of South American fruit.
BLUEBERRY
Crop 2016 is the second largest recorded crop in Maine since ever: 107 million pounds of blueberries harvested. Consequently, prices are low, with high carryover. Some customers even decided to cover themselves for the next 2 years. Coming crop volumes will be estimated at the blooming season.
