More than ever...

With the doldrums of post-holiday January mercifully over, it appears that the month of St Valentine is going to be about less about loving your neighbour and more about "special relationships", conspicuous hand-holding, and hard-sought freedoms being re-negotiated in the blink of an executive order. Those dreary days of January seem so blissful now and already so far away.

EFR was founded on the principle that our club is it open to EVERYONE. More than ever, particularly in the light of LGBT History Month, EFR's diversity and visibility in the community is a testament to love trumping hate, to celebrating not castigating differences, and to making great things happen when you have the courage to walk (or run) in someone else's shoes.

So keep on loving yourself, keep on supporting others, and keep on running together.

DON'T FORGET YOUR LAUFSCHUHE!

The date for EFR's first international race away has been set! Shine up your biersteins and mark your calendars for 14 May 2017 because we're off to the Big 25 Berlin race!  This weekend of racing includes multiple distances including a 10k, half-marathon, 5x5km relay, and of course the 25km main event, so there's a challenge for everyone. And as it turns out, our friends from Northern Frontrunners will be attending too - can we say: achtung baby? ;)

The online registration deadline is 10 May with fees getting more expensive the closer to the date so don't delay! Event and travel info here: Big 25 Berlin. Website here: website.

LGBT HISTORY MONTH is happening in February. This is an opportunity to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer lives and culture, and to recognise the significant contribution LGBT people have made to our country and the world at large. It is also an opportunity for learning, discussion and debate around the continued fight for LGBT liberation.

We will be having a social at The Regent on Saturday 11 February 7pm onwards both to celebrate the occasion and to welcome all of our newest members. No pressure to attend but if you were thinking of dropping by, our Social Sec would appreciate it if you could let her know. Look for the event on the EFR Facebook page and drop us a line!

TRAINING

Welcome new LEARN TO RUNNERS, Class of 2017 (Winter edition - you guys are totally hard core). There has been a very impressive turn-out for Weeks 1 and 2 of our new and improved LtR programme, both on Wed evenings and Sat mornings. Heading into Week 3, we look forward to new progressions to test us and a little more light in the sky heralding the return of Spring. It's still a good idea to keep wearing your high-vis shirts and headlamps though. If you are in need of some high-vis kit, ask one of the EFR Committee team about our branded electric yellow tops.

The next INTERVAL TRAINING session will be held on Wed 08 Feb. Intervals are great for adding variety to your routine and helping you get ready for that race you just signed up for. Even better, once you learn some basic interval techniques, these can be easily incorporated into your running schedule outside of EFR's regular runs. Everyone at all levels are encouraged to participate - why not give it a try?
